Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Dory.
Hi Kelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been into fitness most of my life. Whether it’s through sports in high school, distance running (half marathons, marathons, Ultra marathon!), or getting into weights after moving to Colorado. Once I started working for Genesis Health Clubs (formerly known as Miramont Lifestyle Fitness when I first started) I fell in love with weight lifting, pushing myself, and pushing others when it came to fitness. I knew it was for me. Shortly after beginning my journey at Miramont, I started Small Group Training (previously known as Tribe) and eventually my Personal Training Certification! I just loved helping people so much that I wanted to make a career out of it!
A few years after getting into Personal Training and just training for myself, I wanted to try something new, so I gave CrossFit a shot. I fell in love immediately. The workouts, the community, the competition. It was all for me! I became obsessed. This was a sport that I become dedicated to. Something that literally became my life – a #1 priority. Over the years, I competed (mostly for fun) in many local competitions and a yearly, worldwide competition called the Open. Last year (2021) I moved onto the Quarterfinals (the next step in the competition after the Open) This moment made me realize that CrossFit really was my jam and I wanted to pursue it even more, Over the next few months, I had considered quitting my full-time job (gym manager) to train for the CrossFit games full time and to start my own business online through social media!
Fast forward to October 2021, I made that dream come true! Currently, I am training with a coach, Lando Holt, who is based out of Washington, through the company WODPrep. My ultimate goal is to make it to the CrossFit games and compete there. Along with that, I am no longer the Club Manager at the gym, but rather, I so Personal Training and Coach CrossFit, all the while I am pursuing a career through expressing my personality with Instagram reels and posts and hoping to inspire the world with fitness and fun! My Instagram Page – The Beefcake Factory – is a place where people can find fitness posts, inspirational messages, funny videos, and so much more! I am trying to be a place for anyone and everyone to get inspired through fitness, but laugh along the way!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! I have been judged, I’ve been tired and exhausted, and financially, I am struggling as well. But it has all been SO worth it!!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
For work, I am a Personal Trainer and a CrossFit coach! I specialize in working with females and changing their mindset about being strong as shit! I want women to see being strong as being beautiful and having muscles as feminine and sexy. I am known for my overly positive personality and sense of humor and just taking every day with a light heart – have fun! I am most proud of quitting my job as a gym manager to pursue my dreams as an Online Influencer and CrossFit Games Athlete 🙂 I think me as a whole package sets me apart from others! My passion for fitness, my sense of humor, my loving personality, & my dedication to all of the above!!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I 110% believe in risk taking! I obviously took a huge risk leaving a solid job to pursue something that may or may not be financially stable! I literally quit a career to follow my dreams of becoming an Online Influencer and CrossFit games Athlete with no guarantee for either!
