Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Cox.
Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My background is in payroll, HR and employment law for small-mid-sized businesses. From 2016-early 2020 I owned my own company helping businesses in the Northern Colorado community with those things.
I was the fixer, the problem solver, and the sounding board. I was good at it and landed on the Colorado Top 100 Women-Owned Businesses list for two years running by Coloradobiz Magazine.
I was also stressed out, anxious and overwhelmed most of the time. Those are big things to take on for other businesses, including our own, Plenty Wellness, that my husband opened in 2016.
When I was pregnant with my daughter in 2019 I assumed I would put her in daycare and carry on with the HR and payroll business. I didn’t see a different path for myself and felt an obligation to continue the business, even though I wasn’t really happy running it anymore.
But then I met her, Grace was born September 14, 2019. Isn’t it amazing how the day you become a mother, you transform into another version yourself?
So my priorities changed immediately, and I knew I needed to close that chapter. I made the decision to close the business in December 2019. It was tough on me because closing a business includes a big helping of what feels like failure. But it was the right decision and I have no regrets. I felt an enormous weight lifted off of me.
Taking that leap led me to dust off my camera and spend time doing something I love. Photography became a hobby which quickly turned into a passion. If you know me, you weren’t surprised that I turned it into a business. That entrepreneurial spirit runs deep!
So long story short, I guess I’ve reinvented myself, definitely reinvented my career, and it feels like I’m finally “home”.

What does success mean to you?
When I took the leap of faith to close my HR & Payroll biz I had no idea that that decision would have led to a life so full of happiness, creativity, freedom and wholeness.
That may sound cheesy, but after having been on a path that drained me and left me in a rut of depression and anxiety – this feeling today, this is a success.
