Community Highlights: Meet AK Shawar of Auto Sales

Today we’d like to introduce you to AK Shawar.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a passion for cars and how they work from a young age. My father, a retired ophthalmologist, ran his clinic. I always enjoyed helping him run his business. My major was Automotive Engineering and Design as well as Mechanical Engineering. As I was obtaining my degree, I worked for a government entity as a Safety Inspector for vehicles. I obtained a certification from the Ministry of Transportation that allowed me to inspect and give registration to vehicles to operate on the road. After graduation, I pursued a career with Intel. However, I realized that my passion for vehicles was something I wanted to pursue. I worked in management for Franchise Dealerships. I had the opportunity to effectively position the dealerships for growth and profitability which led the dealerships to successful acquisitions. After working in the industry for 20 years, I decided that I was dedicated to providing essential services to the public with a commitment to helping customers find the vehicle they want at a superior level of service. In 2022, I became the founder of Auto Sales LLC.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Many industries and many businesses over the past few years have been in a challenging position. The world was dramatically affected by the pandemic. Many of us had to learn how to navigate and operate during a global pandemic. The impact of the chip shortage on new cars has impacted the trade volume this, in turn, has affected the pricing of pre-owned vehicles and therefore the demand for used cars has increased. The biggest challenge is finding pre-owned inventory. It is a pretty difficult challenge for me especially when I buy pre-owned vehicles for my business, I like to think it is something I am buying for myself. My background in Automotive Engineering has helped me to navigate during these challenging times. It is important to understand the features of the vehicles, however, when you are buying a pre-owned vehicle, it is so important to understand if the car is mechanically functional! As a new business owner trying to balance the challenges of making sure a vehicle is presentable is a very big deal to me. I depend on a lot of automotive vendors to service my vehicles. It is challenging at times as many businesses have limited staff or supply shortages for vehicle parts, but despite all these challenges, I like to think that every situation in life is temporary.
