Community Highlights: Meet Liz Gonzalez-Lara & Erica Arteaga of Dos Amigas Meals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Gonzalez-Lara & Erica Arteaga.

Hi Liz & Erica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Erica and I had been friends for about 6 years, we were running our respective businesses but had always talked about doing something together. In March of 2020 when covid hit and my event-based business suffered from all of the 2020 cancellations, Erica and I got creative and stared offering delicious and authentic Mexican food delivered to people’s front door. It was the perfect time to start a business like this as restaurants were closed and we were offering a contactless delivery of delicious tamales, carnitas, barbacoa, chiles rellenos, people loved our concept and it took off. Here we are two years later and having so much fun working together and proudly sharing a piece of our culture with our Denver, CO community. Always busy thinking of ways to better our service and make it even more convenient for our customers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never easy, it requires money, time, and lots of patience but when you believe in your project/mission, nothing can stop you. We look at the struggles as opportunities to grow and learn from each experience. For example, we learned that our customers thought our packages were too much food so they were not ordering anymore because they did not know what to do with so much food, we listened and we changed our packages to 1 pound instead of 2 pounds.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are literally Dos Amigas curating the most authentic Mexican food. Our meals are sourced from Texas, Mexico, California, New Mexico, and Denver. The concept is easy; our clients order any day of the week from our website and their order is delivered the following Wednesday. The food is delivered frozen, making it so convenient for the to keep in the freezer for busy days or for when they are craving the most delicious Mexican food that will remind them of Mexico. This has been amazing for people hosting parties as the food is fully prepared and ready to heat and eat. We sell one-pound packages of proteins like Pastor, Carnitas, Chicken Tinga, Barbacoa, Chicken Mole, ready for people to make tacos, burritos, or bowls. We also sell the most delicious Tamales, Chiles Rellenos, Chimichangas, Corn Quesadillas, ready to go in the oven or air-fryer and pair with our beans and Mexican rice. We are so proud and grateful for the opportunity to share the most authentic Mexican food in Denver and we’ve recently started offering our service to Boulder, Longmont, Golden, Parker, Littleton, Castle Pines, and everywhere in between these areas.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Just our gratitude with this amazing community who is always ready to support a small and local business. We know at first, they probably bought because they personally know Erica or myself but it feels amazing when you see them reordering and spreading the word with their friends and family. We are so grateful for everyone’s support and for believing in us.
