Community Highlights: Meet Melissa Haile of Moss North Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Haile.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born in New York City, I was raised in a family of healers. In the 70’s, my grandmother (a talented Iridologist), along with Ruth Sackman, co-founded a Non-Profit Cancer Therapy Organization called Foundations for The Advancement of Cancer Therapies (FACT). A documentary was filmed, and a book was published based on FACT. Inspired by this remarkable community of healers, I set my sights on becoming a Healing Arts Practitioner. For over 20 years, I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Practitioner of Asian Bodywork Therapy.

Additionally, I am a 500-Hour Certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher and a Doula, proudly trained by Debra Pascali Bonaro. For five years, I was a Professor of Massage Therapy in New York City. There, I trained massage professionals in Shiatsu, Swedish and Myofascial Therapy. I am one of very few Colorado healers part of the Certified Practitioners of the American Organization of Asian Bodywork Therapy (AOBTA-CP). As an Asian Bodywork Therapist with over 500 hours of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I offer Amma Therapy, Nutritional recommendations and Herbal recommendations. In 2014, I visited Chengdu, China, for specialized training on Traditional Chinese Medicine. These practices are particularly useful for women when it comes to issues of Fertility, Prenatal and Postpartum healing.

In 2019, my family left New York and moved to Denver. My massage practice, Moss North Therapy, opened in June at the Nurture Wellness Marketplace located in the Denver Highland area. There I specialize in an intuitive Korean Based Massage Therapy called Amma Therapy, which is a Deep Tissue massage that focuses on the meridians with Acupressure point manipulation. This massage includes; Fire Cupping, Gua Sha, Infrared Heat and Swarvoski Ear Seeds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We went into quarantine the day that we were supposed to celebrate our grand opening on March 15th. As a massage therapist opening up a massage therapy practice immediately, post-pandemic has been really interesting. However, there is a very strong wellness-focused community in Colorado and my space is in a really great community that attracts clients who value massage.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Moss North Therapy?
I was taught massage therapy directly from the founder of a specialized form of massage called Amma Therapy. Most massage therapists are taught one hundred hours of traditional Chinese medicine and attend a total of five hundred hours of school. I was taught five hundred of Traditional Chinese Medicine that were part of my one thousand hours of training. The strong background that I have from my upbringing coupled with the strong educational background that I received in massage therapy school is what I believe has kept me in this industry for over twenty years, most therapists on average last eight. Being passionate about taking Continuing Education classes is what has kept my twenty years of work fresh and always up to date. I have also worked for over fifteen years in the spa industry, where I have worked as a Lead Therapist and Spa Director for leading hotel spas in New York City. With my experience in the spa industry, I have learned to love the art of curating a massage and turning it into an experience, which is what I do at my practice at Moss North Therapy. Some of the services/ packages that I currently offer include; “Self Care Massage”- A one time trial to a three or six pack of 90 minute massages. Depending on your needs and personal preferences, your massages may include Amma Therapy Deep Tissue Massage with Acupressure Points, Gua Sha, Fire Cupping, Infrared Cupping, and Auricular Therapy with 24K Ear Seeds and Swarovski Crystals. “ Mama Needs A Break” package – Indulge in deep relaxation with our CBD Massage. We’ll start with an exfoliating loofah scrub, then a CBD Heated Body Wrap. You’ll enjoy a 60-minute massage with your choice of lavender or unscented massage oil.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
To be successful, you have to love and be passionate about what you are doing. I live by the mantra, ” Live The Life You Love and Love The Life You Live.” When my massage schedule is full, I never feel tired because of the passion and drive that have fueled me. You can never be tired of doing what you love.
