Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Waller.
Hi Meredith, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From a young age, I knew that I wanted to help people and create meaningful connections. However, it wasn’t until I took an “Introduction to Psychology” class in high school that I realized mental health was my calling. I was completely fascinated and have been embracing my journey in the mental health field ever since! My path has led me to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work, and to open my private practice- Rooted Wellness Counseling.
I have also had the honor of supporting people in many different life situations on this path, as I explored exactly who I was best at helping. From outreaching homeless youth and providing therapy to adults dealing with psychosis and mood disorders, to working collaboratively with doctors, nurses, and psychiatrists in medical and community settings- all of my experiences have taught me a lot about how we respond to challenges, cope, and heal. Despite the significant differences of each situation, three major takeaways stood out for me:
– We rarely give ourselves the compassion we deserve.
– Our minds can be really mean and we often accept thoughts as facts.
– It’s not uncommon to lose hope that our symptoms, situation, or thoughts can improve.
Today, those lessons are the foundation for Rooted Wellness Counseling, which teaches self-compassion, challenges thought patterns through cognitive behavioral therapy and fosters hope for healing and growth. It is such an honor to help others find their path forward, and I wholeheartedly believe that this is my purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In a world where there is such a need for mental health care, there’s absolutely a pull to help as many people as possible. I think one of the biggest challenges of my career was giving myself permission to be a specialist and hone my expertise. While I am able to help people with a wide variety of concerns, my gift is supporting adults who are dealing with anxiety, struggling with negative self-talk, and who are feeling completely stuck.
In addition to having a lot of experience helping people navigate these concerns, I am a fully Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) and Certified Shame-Informed Treatment Specialist (CSTS)- it just made sense to focus on what I’m best at! Now, I’m really proud to be known as a specialist for people seeking to overcome anxiety, navigate grief, process relationship concerns, and improve self-esteem.
When someone has the courage to start therapy, I want them to know they’re in good hands! For me, specializing in specific concerns has allowed me to take my work to the next level.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My goal for Rooted Wellness was to create a therapy offering for people who, in addition to having a place to process their concerns, wanted the support to overcome them. I cringe when clients tell me their last therapist would only chime in to say “we are out of time, see you next week!” If people are taking time out of their busy lives for therapy, I believe they deserve engagement, encouragement, and feedback! Effective and supportive collaboration is what I’m proud to offer and be known for.
Rooted Wellness Counseling is a fully online therapy practice, which allows me to work with adults throughout the state of Colorado. My work centers around cognitive behavioral therapy, practical tools/ skills, self-compassion, and problem-solving therapy.
This means that I help people increase awareness of their thought patterns, learn ways to address problematic symptoms, be more kind to themselves, and navigate difficult life situations/changes. I want people to know that they can improve their relationship with themselves and heal- they don’t have to feel stuck or anxious forever.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
It sounds simple, but I believe the key to my success is that I genuinely love what I do! It is an honor to do this work and be a trusted guide in others’ healing process.
Ultimately, I think you show up differently when you get to be a part of what you’re passionate about every day and it has created a really strong foundation for my work as a therapist. I find it so fulfilling to watch positive change occur for my clients, and when clients realize I am just as invested as they are, it allows for some powerful vulnerability and growth.
