Conversations with the Inspiring AnnMarie John

Today we’d like to introduce you to AnnMarie John.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
This is a long story, but I’m going to make it as brief as I can.

My website first started out as a way to keep my family and friends connected as I was living in a different state, thousands of miles away from everyone. We slowly evolved from sharing about my daughter (who was a baby at the time) to reviewing products that we loved and used.

After a few years, I decided that I wanted to share more about me and so AnnMarie John was created, and just recently we did a complete makeover, and I’m now sharing about my travels which includes all my bucket list places. I’m on a mission to show that travel doesn’t have to be expensive and that taking your children with you should be “that thing that you do”, as it’s beneficial to you both.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If I said it was, I would be lying. Yes, there’s been struggles. When I first started, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. It took a few years before I could see a financial benefit and have often considered quitting and hanging up my hat. But then, I would say to myself, “there’s someone out there who needs to read this”, and I’ll keep on going.

For those who are just starting out on your journey, I say don’t give up. I’m not saying it’s going to get easier, but with persistence, you’ll make it.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well, I call myself a blogger. Most might even say a social media influencer. I currently specialize in family travel and parenting. I share tidbits on what it’s like to have a multi-generational household. From parenting my elementary aged daughter, or high schooler, to a son in college, and even a daughter who just started her very first job after graduating college.

We have worked with some big named businesses throughout the years. Businesses such as Amazon, Walmart, and IKEA. I’ve also worked with airlines such as Norwegian and United.

What sets me apart is that I keep it real. I don’t sugarcoat anything. I not only share the good but also the bad, so whatever you read on my site, you know that you’re getting the raw deal.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mom has always been my inspiration. I didn’t grow up in a very rich family, but we had enough to survive. She taught me the value of a dollar and what it means to save for what you have. I remember her telling me one day:

“If you have a dollar, save at least 25cents, because you never know what’s in store for the future.”

It’s still something that I do. I save at least 1/4 of my income (sometimes less, I admit), but it’s what has kept me going to this day.

She also instilled within me the love of travel, so even though I save, most of my money now goes towards travel. I’m of the firm belief, that everyone can travel to someplace new, you’ve just got to prioritize. So, instead of spending money towards designer coffee, save that money and at the end of the year, you may have saved enough for a dream trip.
