Conversations with the Inspiring Stephanie Rome

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Rome.

Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My passion for holistic health was ignited by having to struggle through my own [un]fair share of health problems, namely digestive issues and hormonal imbalances. It took me about seven years of wrestling with chronic symptoms to acknowledge I needed to make a change in both my diet and my lifestyle.

At this time, I was living in Sydney, Australia. I began seeing a holistic health practitioner who helped me identify and resolve my health issues using a “food as medicine” approach. Working with her opened my eyes to the world of integrative health care which treats the root cause of health issues, not just the symptoms. I became so enthralled with everything I was learning that I decided to make a career pivot and go back to school to become a holistic nutritionist and health coach. After finishing school, I moved to Denver and launched my practice in 2015 and never looked back! I’m super passionate about helping others experience the joy I’ve found in good health. And I’ve helped over 200 clients achieve their health and wellness goals.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I was just starting out, my biggest struggle was finding clients. I moved to Denver and knew about three people so I had to work to build a network. I didn’t do much marketing in the early days, so I relied heavily on referrals from clients and other health practitioners. While the word-of-mouth route for building a business is certainly slow-going, it was what felt most authentic to me. My main advice to women just starting out is: you do you. Don’t feel like you have to fit someone else’s mold. Find what feels most authentic or natural to you and focus on that.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Holistic Nutritionist and Health Coach and my company is called Keenist. I offer personalized, one-on-one counseling to clients across the country in developing healthy and sustainable nutrition and lifestyle habits. I don’t promote “diets” and don’t believe there is one right way to eat for everyone. Rather than adhering to one dietary philosophy, I work with my clients to devise an eating plan that is tailored to each person’s individual needs and goals. Among other things, I specialize in women’s health – helping women transition off birth control, heal hormonal imbalances, manage hormonal conditions and optimize fertility.

What sets me apart?
My nutrition approach starts with one key principle… we are all unique! The “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work for nutrition. My mission is to help each client tap into the food and lifestyle that’s optimal for her. To teach her how to start paying attention and listening deeply to the signs and signals from her body and mind. Each individual is her own health expert so, instead of telling my clients what to do, I give them the knowledge, support, and tools they need to take control of their health!

In addition to nutrition counseling, Keenist hopes to be a go-to place for healthy living inspo and tools that nourish the body, mind, and spirit! I have created two recipe books and two cleanse guides, as well as a line of small-batch organic herbal teas, which can be found on my website.
