Conversations with Alexandra West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra West.

Hi Alexandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story begins with currently being enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Colorado Denver within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences school majoring in Integrated Studies containing two minors, Communications and Business. While being a student I have two jobs; hosting at a local restaurant a few days a week and editing for a local photographer, Sarah Lindsay Photography. While working two jobs, one of my occupations being editor within photography has always been an interest of mine since I began working for Sarah Lindsay Photography back in 2019. Photography has not only led to a lot of open doors for me, but it also holds a special place in my heart for being something that I am very passionate about.

My schedule stays consistently busy throughout the year while managing school and work during the Summers as well, I also am an aspiring model who began back in Summer 2021 by being scouted by a local talent scout. Back when I was in high school in 2018, I’ve always done small fun shoots here and there with some friends and then decided to pursue modeling by applying to some local agencies. Unfortunately, I did not hear back from any at that time. It was very challenging for me at first and brought my confidence down significantly as I thought that I’m not good enough. That then led to an interest in pageantry, and I thought why not give it a go. I competed twice for the title of Miss Colorado Teen USA 2019 and 2020 and placed in the top 15 both times. Once I aged out of the teen division within pageantry, I then decided to further my aspiring modeling career. With still no luck, I decided to focus back on myself along with school and my two jobs and to let the timing do its thing. Soon enough I was scouted by a photographer via Instagram in 2021, Alain Camporiva, and since then I have never felt so grateful for my journey and what it has done for me now.

Graduating from college being the most important accomplishment to yet complete, it consisted of struggles at the beginning including what I wanted to do with my life. So far I have earned my General Associate of Arts from Red Rocks Community College in 2021 and am now about to enter my senior year at the University of Colorado Denver and expected to graduate in May 2023 at the age of 21. With so many different dreams I have yet to achieve in my life, I couldn’t be more proud of where I am today and what the future holds for me. With my college years soon coming to an end, I still have so much that I aspire to accomplish within the next few years which primarily include traveling and furthering my modeling career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey thus far has certainly contained some struggles including being a full-time student, maintaining two jobs, aspiring to further my modeling career, and managing life itself. Managing a lot at a time while almost turning 21 can become heavy at times. There are times when I feel doubtful and have a lack of confidence/self-esteem. But every day I push through and keep a positive mentality towards looking forward to the future and what it has to offer. During these times, it can certainly be a struggle to get to where you want in life, it begins with being kind to yourself and trusting the timing. Aspiring for what I want most in life comes within time and I’m still learning and experiencing new attributes to it every day. Looking back on my past self when I was struggling so much with wanting to focus on one thing at a time, had me at a confusing place at the age of 16. Now almost at the age of 21 while balancing many different aspects of my life, I take one day at a time. Taking breaks here and there for my mentality is one aspect apart of my life that keeps me in a positive mindset for the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The profession I have the most interest in is pursuing modeling professionally. My career began in the summer of 2021 when I was scouted off of Instagram by a talent scout, Alain Camporiva who wanted to meet with me and work with me to build a portfolio. We spent the whole summer collaborating and doing all kinds of shoots including swimwear, studio, video, and streetwear. I then got with an agency in December of 2021, World Management, and since then I have been collaborating with all kinds of photographers and designers. On December 11th, 2021, I walked in my first fashion show, Fierce in The City produced by Salwa Owens and it was a game-changer for me. This past March I walked for my first two shows in Denver Fashion Week Spring 2022 for Tara Hari Couture and Columbia Sportswear. Modeling takes time along with my current full schedule including college and hosting, but it is something that I am truly passionate about and appreciative for during this time in my life. I aspire one day to further my modeling career by doing runway around the globe along with traveling and meeting new individuals within the modeling world.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The advice I would give to future models or entrepreneurs is to be kind to yourself and to trust the timing. Still to this day and likely for a while, my modeling career came within time as I am still learning and appreciating each part of my journey thus far. Looking back on my past self when I was struggling so much with wanting to do modeling professionally made me feel doubtful about my current and future self. Everything has a reason in life and timing was mine. After taking a break and letting it go for a while, it finally came to me for once. It mentally felt so rewarding rather than putting myself down after not receiving a callback or being with an agency. Trusting the process and manifesting what you truly want within your life is key to making your dreams come true.
