Today we’d like to introduce you to John Robson.
Hi John, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Photography started as a way of documenting my experiences when I was a teenager. Over the decades it has evolved to be more of a means of art and expression intended to delight and intrigue the senses.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course the journey hasn’t been smooth, it rarely ever is. The biggest struggle was accepting that my calling was to be a photographer, not a graphic designer, which I had gone to college for. It took nearly 20 years to come back to what got me interested in design in the first place—photography and creating images.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for bringing out a pure sense of being in the people and even the inanimate subjects that I photograph. I specialize in seeing behind the scenes into the world of the makers and shakers, from chefs to medical professionals to see who they are and what they create. You could call this a specialization in branding, lifestyle or commercial photography, or merely creating art. What am I most proud of? Believing in myself and leaping into a career as a freelance photographer.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Enjoy the ride. Love what you do and who you do it for.
