Conversations with Kate Milford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Milford.

Hi Kate, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m Kate. A self-identified photographer since the age of 12 when my most treasured item – a cherry red Nikon camera – was never out of reach. In my 20s, a trip to Italy seen through the eye of my camera lens sparked the idea in me to build a career in photography. An adventure to South Africa not long after focused that idea even more: to visually tell the stories of brands and people who are giving back to the world.

Today, that’s what I do and it’s truly my heart and soul. As a one-woman travel, lifestyle, and brand photographer and producer for more than a decade, I LOVE constantly refining my craft so that purpose-driven brands have beautiful, elevated visuals to not only tell their stories but grow their audience, deepen their impact and make our planet a better place. Whether through my content trips or personal branding shoots, I have SO much passion for every brand I work with. It’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with them and curate their stories using the world’s most magical, natural landscapes as the backdrop.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oooh, there are so many challenges in the amazing and full journey of entrepreneurship, but I think the trickiest part of it is very simple. It’s trusting yourself. Trusting that you are creating impact for your clients, trusting that you have value and worth to be in your industry day in and day out, and trusting that you WILL create deep and meaningful relationships with your clients. All businesses have highs and lows, and showing up as authentically and valuable as you can is all you can do (it makes it easier when you are in love with your job + clients!).

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Denver-based photographer and producer for sustainable outdoor brands and heart-centered entrepreneurs. Content Trips are the bread and butter of what I do; I trek to 7 postcard-worthy locations around the country and globe and fully produce and shoot for brands. I also produce and shoot local projects in Colorado (the mountains being in my backyard make this a magical place to shoot!).

Any big plans?
I hope to build out retreats for photographers and have more creatives build out their dream job. There is room at the table for all of us!
