Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Nunnelly and Sabina. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Casey and Sabina, the co-founders of Byte Bars, moved to Colorado to build a healthier lifestyle. The cousin duo and CU Boulder alumni couldn’t find a satisfying snack that could keep up. So, they made Byte Bars. Fuel small enough to throw in your pocket, powerful enough to get you up the mountains, and raw enough to get you through the powder. Byte Bars were built for badass people just like Casey and Sabina, who approach life with the work-hard-play-hard mentality. Byte Bars are delicious AF (and Fun!) energy bars made with vegan, RAW, + Non-GMO ingredients like Organic Dates, MCT Oil, and Monk Fruit. Each bar is pre-portioned into two Bytes for shareable, easy snacking. Byte Bars are crafted with purposeful healthy ingredients to power your day. Casey and Sabina, the female superheroes behind the brand, are striving to create a more sustainable world one Byte at a time. Byte Bars fuel a healthy life. Three years later, the brand has gone through a pivotal packaging rebrand and product reformulation and can be found on the shelf at 200+ stores across the U.S. including Whole Foods Market, Erewhon, Urban Outfitters, and will be launching into King Soopers at the end of 2022. Casey and Sabina, the female co-founders and superheroes behind the brand, are striving to create a more sustainable world one Byte at a time. Byte Bars fuel a healthy life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching a startup is never an easy road. The cousin duo has learned the perseverance and persistence necessary to overcome the large and small challenges of being an entrepreneur. They could not have done it without support from the amazing Colorado natural foods network. Casey and Sabina have found the importance of being self-critical and knowing when to ask for help.
COVID-19 has presented challenges for the whole world’s supply chain, and the CPG industry is no exception. The Byte Team has learned that communication with their manufacturers is vital to maintaining a healthy business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Casey and Sabina were lucky enough to grow up surrounded by entrepreneurs. Their grandfather is credited with the first patented snowmaking gun and was also father to 9 girls (Sab + Casey’s mom’s). The large presence of female empowerment has inspired the cousin duo to always strive for their best especially in the sports world. The duo always wanted to be as fast and as strong as the boys, and that same attitude fuels their business today.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Casey and Sabina both grew up as female athletes, lovers of the outdoors, food and exploring the amazing world we are all lucky to be a part of. Casey was a member of the volleyball, softball, and ice hockey teams at her high school and would go on to play hockey at CU Boulder, where she was also captain. Sabina, a competitive ski racer, loved growing up at the Seven Springs Mountain resort, which their grandfather built and managed. The duo continues their enthusiasm for sports post-college… You can find them in the yoga studio, on the bike path, or racing down the ski mountain. If they’re not enjoying their athletic pursuits, the duo is most likely enjoying the company of their friends around a delicious meal.
