Daily Inspiration: Meet Elizabeth Villagomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Villagomez.

Hi Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Elizabeth, but I go by Liz! I’m 30 years old and started photography back in late 2019. I’ve always had a passion for photography since my early teens but I was very caught up in my own teenage nonsense to take it seriously. When I finally decided to go to college I took the first chance I got to take photography as an elective. 2020 COVID pandemic hit and in-person classes were no more. I had to go out and teach myself! I shot bands, friends and family for free until I was confident enough to start a website and book clients. Now I shoot couples (I love capturing love), mommies, businesses, and my favorite:  live music. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with the well known reggae festival, Cali Roots and also individual bands like Kolohe Kai, Iya Terra, Eli-Mac, HIRIE, Innavision and more in such a short amount of time! I’ve also toured with Eli-Mac which lead me to this interview. It’s been a journey and I can’t wait for all the learning experiences to come my way!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started taking photography seriously in 2020 and the pandemic hit. My class could no longer meet in person so I had to teach myself as much as I could. It’s been amazing to teach myself with the help of YouTube University lol. I wouldn’t say it was smooth because there were lots of trial and error. I also had to find my niche, but it was a ride worth taking.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in couples, maternity, business and live music. Music festivals are my favorite to shoot and what I have gained most of my following from!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Don’t stop, keep going! It could be discouraging with the whole world taking a pause but you have to keep pushing to be creative!
