Daily Inspiration: Meet Monika Nielsen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monika Nielsen.

Hi Monika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been helping people in their closets/wardrobes for decades! I have a background in retail, fashion, merchandising and somehow, I was just born with the gift of very efficient shopping. So much so, that my friends would call me when they were on a quest for the perfect (insert name of clothing). A challenge I always accepted because what was better that shopping with friends! To marry that all in a service that will help you Cleanse, Clarify and Capsulate was very natural.

I call myself a first-generation purger because I understand the emotional ties that we have to our things and the reasons we don’t want to get rid of them. They remind us of a certain time of our life or we are mourning what is or what was. Think of it as 70% counseling, 20% quick organizing, and 10% mad folding skills. 🙂

I help women walk through the chaos of their closet and wardrobe and give them the opportunity to donate the items that no longer work for them thoughtfully to local nonprofits.

The goal is not to slash and burn through your closet, it’s to set you up efficiently, honoring your memories, teaching you what is best for your lifestyle and personality, and getting you to a place you can get ready quickly, feeling fiercely confident and supremely beautiful.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Personally, one of the hardest things is being a solopreneur and doing it all! When I started, I was just waiting for the time I could hire someone do all the bookkeeping, marketing, etc. so I could spend time with people in their closets-undoubtedly way more fun!

The thing that surprised me the most was how hard is was to help women realize their beauty right now-not X amount of lbs. from now or a better job than now. It shouldn’t have though, since I have walked that path and struggled as most women do. Helping them realize they can breathe again in their space and feel beautiful in their clothing is the best thing about my job.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I help women take the chaos of their closet and wardrobe into a place of calm. We work together to nail down who you are and how you want to shop up in the world and then overlay that in your space and with all your pieces,

We Cleanse and Edit- and no, that doesn’t mean throw it all away! If you have clothing you cannot wear and a goal to wear it again, we move it out of your main space. If you have clothing that are strictly memories, let’s honor those pieces by moving them up to the top shelf, on display for you to enjoy.

We Clarify and Capsulate-making sure what you have lines up with who you are and integrates well. All the pieces that you feel you’re ready to donate, I take to local nonprofits to help in our community. It’s a nonnegotiable in my business, there is a need right here for good clothing that can be passed to others. What was once your best things can become someone else’s best things!

We look for any holes in your wardrobe and do some Personal Shopping. I always start at local boutiques first-we need to keep our money in the hands of our local business owners!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Through my individual work with clients, I have realized that this message is essential for lots of different groups.  I’ve spoken to small groups, mom’s groups, networking groups, small business and mid-size businesses and their employees on various topics from Upleveling Your Style to Uplevel Your Bottom Line, The 3 Things That Sabotage You in Your Closet and the most necessary- You-Right Now(How you want to show up in the world.)

It is possible to be happy with your closet, your wardrobe, your style…to accept and appreciate who you are right now. I’m here to help!
