Exploring Life & Business with Bailee and Jake Ward of Alpine Vows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailee and Jake Ward.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My amazing husband, Jake, who is the videographer for the Alpine Vows team, and I actually had a big wedding and it was so stressful. We actually didn’t even write vows because we were so busy the month before our wedding focusing on decorations, flowers, linens, cake flavors, lighting, invites, travel arrangements, and making sure everyone else was happy and taken care of. Writing our vows kept getting pushed aside because we were constantly getting pulled away to take care of less important tasks that “had to get done.” When it came time to say our vows, we just made them up on the spot. We didn’t know that there were other options besides the big wedding. Now that we do, we help empower couples to choose a wedding that is a perfect representation of them.

I (Bailee) photographed my first elopement in 2018 and I quickly fell in love with Colorado adventure elopements. I knew from that point on that photographing elopements was exactly what I wanted to do. I get the incredible opportunity to combine my love for photographing weddings with my passion for the outdoors.

We niched down to Colorado elopements at the start of 2020 because, after photographing my first elopement, I just knew that there were so many couples who wanted something completely different than the big wedding. We love how intimate, private, and personal elopements are. They give so much space for couples to be exactly themselves and create a wedding day that totally honors their relationship and their love. It truly is the best job in the entire world and we are so lucky that we get this opportunity to work with the most incredible couples to not only document their wedding day but to help them craft an unforgettable wedding experience!

My amazing husband, Jake, joined Alpine Vows in 2021 as an elopement videographer and it is so much fun working together! We love that we get to constantly bounce creative ideas off of each other and, more importantly, we love offering this additional storytelling service to our couples!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! We’ve hit some road bumps along the way, but nothing too great that we couldn’t solve or work through and have a positive outcome. Most of the road bumps occurred at the beginning of our business when we (nonbusiness people) were trying to figure out SEO, website stuff, and how to get ourselves in front of people getting married. We’ve had a lot of trial and error with these things and can say that we’ve got ourselves in a pretty good groove!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Alpine Vows?
We are Alpine Vows, a husband and wife Colorado adventure elopement photography and videography team that specializes in helping ALL couples create an unforgettable wedding experience. Not only do we document elopements, but we’ll help couples every step of the way by providing customized location guides, vendor referral guides, permit assistance, marriage license information, and activity guides, and we’ll help you create the perfect wedding day timeline.

One thing that I am most proud of brand-wise is our inclusion. We are big advocates that eloping is not for just one type of person, but literally, anyone and all type of love can elope in Colorado! That is probably the coolest thing about living here is that there is something for everyone. If you want to do a two-day backpacking trip in the San Juan Mountains, drive to an alpine lake, take a leisurely stroll through a forest, or you want to elope on the deck of a gorgeous cabin in Breckenridge, there is something for everyone here and anyone can elope in Colorado.

If anyone catches on to anything about our brand, it’s that we are absolutely obsessed with eloping (and Colorado). We think that eloping is one of the best ways to get married and helps to create a stress-free experience for you and your partner to be exactly yourselves and do exactly what you want to do!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I truly think that in the next 5-10 years, eloping will be pretty big. Because of this, I think it is super important that elopement vendors, like photographers and videographers, really take the time to learn about Leave No Trace and how to best implement those principles into their business. Striving to keep our Colorado outdoor spaces looking incredible and accessible for all is super important for the livelihood of elopements.
