Exploring Life & Business with Gio Toninelo of Rocket House Pictures

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gio Toninelo.

Hi Gio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After going from an Architecture major to a Graphic Arts degree, I started a Design Firm in 2007. Despite all the key brand content I was creating, one particular piece was missing: Clients were always asking for a video. So around 2010, instead of giving a client a referral, I decided to produce my first commercial video. And the rest is history.

I had some prior experience creating short films and in still photography so the transition wasn’t too demanding. Suddenly, I found that video production was the future for me. The combination of beautiful images with powerful narratives was the perfect fit.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like all things, there have certainly been some ups and downs. I like being part of a team and doing something I love it’s always fun. But the best part of our journey has been helping clients tell their stories and that has been very rewarding. It is also interesting to see others invested in a vision that we create and believe in. I used to hear:

“It’s hard to MAKE it.”
“There is too much competition.”
“Denver does not need another video company.”
“Nobody will hire an unknown director.”

Well, persistence eventually put us on the map. Today, we receive not only local but nationwide (and sometimes international) production requests. The way I see it, video production is a high-risk business with big rewards, where passion plays a huge role in how we achieve our goals.

Mostly, what has helped Rocket House Pictures progress over the years is planning. We truly believe the saying: “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.” If you love what you do and are prepared to do it, there shouldn’t be too many struggles along the way.

We’ve been impressed with Rocket House Pictures, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We don’t just provide video services, gear, and experienced crew. We provide a true partnership. We learn your story and go tell it to the world in the best way possible. Rocket House Pictures is a full-service video production company. Being full-service means we make videos from start to finish- from creative idea conception to final video delivery, including marketing, and consulting.

For over 10 years we have provided video services for Television, Video Streaming, Commercials, Social Media, Promotional, Marketing, Sales, Corporate, Events, and Webcasts to companies big and small. What makes us unique is our boutique approach: We are a tight ship. The guy who discusses your project with you will actually be the one shooting or editing it. We listen, learn, collaborate, and are committed to impacting lives through our client’s stories. Nothing gets lost in translation because everyone involved with the video is on the same page every step of the way.

In addition, we strive to create videos that can influence the world in some positive way. We have won many awards over the years for either branded content or for short format cinema. Most recently we won the Best Cinematography Award at the 13th Vesuvius International Film Festival and Best Music Video at the 2021 Stockholm City Film Festival.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Denver is that it feels like a small town but with all perks of a major city. What I like least about our city is that Real Estate Developers are funding the campaigns of most of our city council members which continually taints smart fundamental decisions regarding the future of urban planning and development in Denver.
