Exploring Life & Business with Kyle Wong of Integrity 1st at Pikes Peak Dream Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Wong.

Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a kid, I was fascinated with cars. I loved the way they looked, I wanted to know how they worked, and I loved talking to the people that owned them. In between open houses and model homes on the weekend, I’d convince my mom to take me to local car shows. Once I was in high school, I decided I wanted to have my own car shop one day! So I began to pursue that by taking concurrent enrollment courses in high school. To get my foot in the door into the car industry, I started taking up part-time jobs at local car shops and ended up at the McDonald Automotive group in Denver. I worked my way up and ended up spending a couple of years there. I enjoyed the challenge and learning everything that I did, but I realized that as much as I love cars, I didn’t want to be in the business. So I got in touch with a family friend and current team lead, Patrick Holleran, and he agreed to take me under his wing and give me real-world experience while I was taking my real estate licensing courses.

As I did that, I fell in love with the process. I loved the people I worked with as colleagues, I loved the people I met as clients, and I loved the people I met as partners. As soon as I got my license, I hit the ground running. I made personal connections with clients and other brokers alike and tried to learn as much as I could. My goal was to be the most educated professional I could be, and to dip my toes in every aspect of real estate, whether that be investing, VA and FHA loans, contracts, property management, and of course, luxury. As I’ve whittled down my niche, I’ve come to love the luxury home market and every aspect of it. I love beautiful design and architecture where money isn’t an inhibiting factor for creativity. More than that, I simply love the people I get to interact with on a daily basis to make these deals happen, as their stories are all so unique and intriguing. You never know what somebody has been through!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are two things that have stuck with me since beginning my professional career in residential real estate: 1. It is feast or famine. It’s true. Some months (or even seasons) are really good, and some aren’t. Some deals go perfectly smooth, and others have bumps along the whole way. Any job that requires you to deal directly with people, and especially one with so many different people, can be very difficult. Everyone has a different schedule, mindset, and communication style. 2. You’re always working three months ahead. I remember being about four months into being licensed thinking, “I don’t know if I’m going to make it.” It felt like I was constantly working working working but nothing seemed to be happening. My first deal didn’t close until nearly four-five months after getting my license and that was hard.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Integrity 1st at Pikes Peak Dream Homes?
We are the Integrity 1st Team at our brokerage, Pikes Peak Dream Homes Realty. We believe in just that: Integrity first. We are a veteran-owned company that believes that what you do when nobody is watching, matters. Everyone says this, but we truly treat each and every one of our clients and partners as family, because we are. Our community matters to us as a whole, but so does each and every individual. We believe that this is bigger than ourselves, and we strive to put the needs of others above our own. We have many years of experience, and each of our team members brings something valuable and unique to the table. Our office is in Colorado Springs, but we have experience across all of Colorado, and even across the globe. We guarantee that if you give us a call with any real estate need, residential or commercial, local or international, big and complex deals or small questions, we will be right there to walk you along the process. While I personally have made luxury homes my specialty, Integrity 1st manages properties, works with first-time home buyers, renters, and we obviously have a heart for our veterans and active-duty military.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would say it’s important to get right in your own head before you start on a journey that directly affects so many people. What I mean by that is, if you’re looking to make a quick buck and to not have to come into an office, it probably isn’t for you. I wholeheartedly believe that who you are, directly correlates to what you do, and how you do it. The mission is to serve and help others with your expertise, not to see what, or how much, you can get from others. On a more practical side, simply put in the work. Answer your phone. Don’t take weekends off if you don’t need to. Be hungry, humble, and teachable and be willing to admit that there is much you don’t know. I wish I were more diligent in the beginning to just do the “grunt” work.
