Inspiring Conversations with Allison Krawiec-Thayer of PoppyLead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Krawiec-Thayer.

Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Denver-based entrepreneurial mindset coach helping people-pleasing entrepreneurs find their backbone in business. I started talking in full sentences at one year old and have always been one to “light up the room.” As I grew up, I let my sparkle get rubbed off by other people’s opinions, though. I decided I was too big, too loud, too much. I’ve always had an outwardly confident streak, but internally… I was pretty rough on myself.

I graduated with a Psych and Conflict Transformation degree and went off to get a safe job as a receptionist. I walked around with my tail between my legs, following the narrative, wearing the Ann Taylor LOFT and a pearl necklace. I missed these parts of me – creativity, joy, fearlessness… it was as if my wings had been clipped and I was caged.

I longed to have an impact. I longed for freedom of my schedule. I looked inside for what came naturally to me and found my almost impossibly cheerful disposition shining back at me. I saw my ability to feel the emotions of others. I saw my penchant for silver-lining finding. Then “coaching” started showing up everywhere and I knew I was heading in the right direction.

In 2018, I became a certified professional coach, and since then, I’ve been on the personal development journey of a lifetime. There have been countless realizations, clinking champagne glasses, ugly crying, and way more healing than I could have ever anticipated. My niche has changed countless times. I’ve started and stopped a hundred times. The adventure has been so worth it, though. My clients are blessed creatures and my business is my life’s purpose manifested.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I’m grateful for each part thus far, it’s not been smooth by any means. It was September 2018 and my spouse and I had recently uprooted from a beautiful community of friends in Madison, WI to move to all the way across the country to San Francisco. At this point, I’d been side-hustling for about a year and had still never even had a discovery call. Nobody (not even me) understood what I did, so obviously, no one wanted to pay for it. We were barely making ends meet in the city and I frequently laid awake worrying about how I’d fill my days. I just couldn’t get traction. My anxiety skyrocketed and thinking about my business literally brought me to tears.

It was as though everything I thought I knew about who I was and what I came to Earth to do, was a lie. I had been so sure I was meant to coach and help people show up so powerfully in life… but nothing I tried worked, and the only thing I had to show for it was a Google Drive full of worksheets no one cared about.

In this season, for the first time ever, my anxiety took on a depressive flavor. It started to feel both never-ending and also over in so many ways. My sunshine flickered and started to dim, and it seemed easier to turn it off entirely. Then, something I both can and cannot explain started happening. I intuitively knew what to do. I couldn’t feel my hands but I started dialing Mitchell and calmly communicated that he needed to come home. My hands then search for, found, and started texting a suicide hotline.

In that depth, the part of me that is meant to impact the world called upon the Divine and took over to calmly and precisely to navigate me to safety. Over the coming weeks (largely thanks to in-patient care), I found new safety in my body. I found new strength and confidence. I found my inner Sanctuary, which little did I know at the time, was exactly what I needed in order to start seeing success in my business.

We’ve been impressed with PoppyLead, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PoppyLead is a high-touch coaching experience for people-pleasing entrepreneurs to find their backbone and uncover their vibrancy so that they can magnetize clients and abundance with ease. My work tackles the personal leadership development side of starting a business. There are tons of coaches out there with strategy, funnels, and flows; my work is more focused on limiting beliefs, self-sabotage, feelings of worthiness around money, and that side of things. My signature Vibrant Soul Sanctuary is entirely dedicated to this work (and building out the strategy to start magnetizing clients!) and incorporates a research-backed leadership assessment, guided meditations, journaling and workbooks, and one on one sessions.

I also have a membership community that gives entrepreneurs space to interact with others who are on a similar adventure. We meet virtually for 30 minutes first thing on Monday mornings to share our plans for the week and do a quick meditation to ground into our power. We also get together for virtual co-working sessions a few times a month!

Lastly, I love normalizing conversation around the challenges of starting a business, so I host the Confidently In Charge podcast (on Apple, Spotify, Google, etc.) where I chat all things entrepreneurship, mental health, and mindset healing with other entrepreneurs.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spaciousness makes happy because it feels full of possibility. Setting out without a destination in mind, going with my gut, and trusting God and the universe. Dreaming of my future and the abundance and impact that is already on its way to me. Appreciating every day like it’s a special occasion and being alive is reason enough for celebration. Popping the champagne, drinking the good coffee, buying the expensive cheese.

Hearing a really good song for the second time and realizing that it’s pretty catchy and is a new favorite. Not being able to hold back happiness, tears and emotions after seeing someone again or having a really juicy breathwork or movement practice. Seeing rock piles along trails and celebrating my dad’s memory.

When people tell me something reminds them of me, or they were just thinking about me. It feels good to exist inside someone else’s brain sometimes. Being so lit up and excited by my life everyday that I don’t even want to go to sleep.

Seeing someone remember who they truly are. Asking the question that leads to their breakthrough. Witnessing people realizing they’ve made things harder than they need to be and releasing old patterns. Watching entrepreneurs learn to validate themselves and find business beyond people-pleasing.
