Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Taylor.
Ian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have climbed 6 of the 7 summits, the highest mountains on each continent, and in January 2024 will join an elite group of fewer than 400 people to climb all 7. On May 23, 2008, I became the youngest Irishman to stand on the top of the world. In June 2007 a friend and I set out to climb four mountains on four continents in one year with Mount Everest being the final climb.
We also took on a charity element, raising $100,000 to build the Mount Everest primary school in Uganda with the charity Fields of Life. 14 years later we have built 4 additional schools in Nepal and we work on a wide range of projects in Nepal, Peru, Uganda, and Tanzania. I have developed a multi-million dollar business from scratch, managed turnaround business projects, business development, and charity Ambassador.
With over Twenty years of experience, I have climbed Mount Everest to the top, Kilimanjaro 40+ times, and led over 150 treks and expeditions around the world. I am the president of the US board of directors for the charity Fields of Life helping raise awareness of the Mount Everest school and all Fields of Life’s activities in East Africa. Ian has helped build 4 schools in Nepal and helped add 200 stoves in homes in the remote village of Goli.
Our company, Ian Taylor Trekking is based in Colorado and our focus is on running the highest quality treks and expeditions by investing in the local people we work with. We work with the same teams year after year investing in them. We help our staff go to college, set up businesses, and help them, their families, and the wider community. This is what drives us. We want to see our global teams grow, develop and succeed in their communities.
Ian has helped numerous others on their road to climbing Mount Everest using his unique skillset to help others achieve their dreams on the world’s highest mountain. Ian Taylor Trekking, helps teams prepare for their treks around the world. Why not join us in Nepal, Tanzania, Peru, or one of the other locations we travel to?
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When it comes to Climbing Mount Everest, people always ask whether you made it to the top. They don’t see the hours, weeks, months, and years of hard work that go in. It took me 15 years of hard work to get to this point and everything is still a work in progress. I remember sitting in my tent at 7,950 meters/ 26,082 feet, high on Mount Everest. Someone comes into our tent with bad news.
A Swiss climber had died in the next tent to us. We would also have to step over a body on the Balcony at 8,400 meters/ 27,559 feet. Sitting here, preparing to enter the higher realm of the Death Zone on Mount Everest. I was faced with the fact that two fellow climbers had died. One of which I may have to step over at some stage climbing high on Mount Everest. Before climbing Everest I had been told I wasn’t good enough, actually many times in my life I was told I wasn’t good enough.
This can either break us or give us the desire to come back stronger and prove people wrong. I choose the latter. Most people who choose to write us off usually have their issues and demons and we should never let anyone tell us we are not good enough. With the right attitude, persistence, vision, passion, and desire to accumulate knowledge we can grow and attain everything we strive for in life. We will always have struggles and obstacles, it is how we react to them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
