Today we’d like to introduce you to Maisha Feagin.
Hi Maisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the beauty industry in 2009 and I also worked various retail positions for wet seal forever 21 and more. I have been in the beauty and retail industry for quite some time and have always had a passion for it. I moved from the Chicagoland area to Colorado Springs in 2015 and I noticed that there weren’t a whole lot of places to shop and get really cute fashionable styles. I was always going home and shopping because I didn’t care for the options in the springs. Everyone would always ask me where I got my clothes from and tell me how cute I dressed etc. and that’s when my wheels got to going. I started the house of flawless boutique in June of 2019 as an online store and opened my storefront and salon in November 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would love the say the road has been easy but I would be lying. I have had many times of wanting to sell every piece of clothing I had and just giving it up and just continue doing hair in the salon. It was hard for me especially in the beginning because I’m not from this region so getting the word out had become a struggle for me because I didn’t know a lot of people. And sometimes having people that genuinely support you and want to see you win are people that are hard to come by. I knew giving up was not and is not an option for me so I have had to pull myself up by the bootstraps a few times. And I think that makes this journey that much more rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
So the house of flawless is truly a one of a kind place. We offer hi fashion versatile options for women of all shapes and sizes. Not only that what makes us stand out is the fact that I am a licensed cosmetologist and MUA so not only can you get bomb clothes shoes and accessories but you can book hair and makeup services as well. It’s literally a one stop shop. I offer a number of hair services from silk presses extensions color etc. and I’ve been in the industry over ten years so you can bet I have really grown my skills and expertise over the years. I am super proud of my store I put a lot of blood sweat and tears into making it look beautiful smell beautiful and just creating that ambiance. You know how you have a vision in your head of how you want something to look well that’s what I had and when I say that my store is everything I envisioned it really is and it makes me proud.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Imma be honest I never thought of myself as much of a risk taker but when I look at my life and choices, I must say I kind of am a risk taker. I lived in the Chicago area for my whole life that was all I knew. When I finally made the decision to move I was scared out of my mind I went back and forth about it for almost a year if I would actually make the move. I made the decision to move and I had me my two years old daughter and $200 in my purse. I didn’t know what I was gonna do but I knew I needed a change and I needed to put myself in a better position to provide for me and my baby. So I told myself what’s the worst that can happen everything could fall apart and I could move back home and regroup or everything could fall together. In my mind, I said if you never go, you will never know. So I took that leap of faith and I haven’t looked back since. When it comes to taking risks I say sometimes you just gotta go for it. You never know what could happen honestly and fearing the unknown could leave you in places and situations that keep you further from reaching your destiny.
