Inspiring Conversations with Nicholas Paschal of Alpine IQ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Paschal.

Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am an entrepreneur and technologist with year-after-year success in achieving revenue, profit, and business growth objectives within startup, turnaround, and rapid change conditions. I am the CEO of Alpine IQ; a customer data, marketing, and analytics cloud designed specifically for the cannabis industry. Our goal since day one has been to bring world-class technology to an industry ripe for disruption.

I have been building a customer data platform framework since 2016 with my Co-Founder, Shaz Abid. Around July of 2019: my brother West Paschal was working at Tilray. His involvement in Canadian M&A initiatives blossomed the critical need for data and marketing tools in the cannabis industry.

When we realized legal Cannabis companies lack the technology to power their most important work, we made it our mission to understand their challenges and empower them. If I don’t see a solution to a problem, I’m going to create one.

In February 2020, we publicly launched Alpine IQ with the goal to build technology that would genuinely fuel modern cannabis retail and brand infrastructures. Today, we are partnered with over 2,100 retailers and brands within every U.S. state with a medical or recreational program, as well as all Canadian provinces with a cannabis market.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When we first entered the market, it became clear that loyalty programs run with text messages meant everything to retailers and the reason behind that was that it was one of the only marketing tactics available. Mailchimp, Klaviyo, and Twilio continued to stand on the wrong side of history and kick cannabis dispensaries to the curb.

The market sentiment that texting customers are the best way to build loyalty, AOV, and repetitive visits over other channels ended up being a heavily false narrative pushed by our early competitors stuck in the stone age.

Over the years one of the biggest challenges has been diversifying the marketing budgets of retailers stuck in the past and missing out on ROI. The reality is that 70-80% of texts are not engaged and other channels such as native app push notifications, email, and postcards can be just as or even more effective.

As you know, we’re big fans of Alpine IQ. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Alpine IQ is Headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado. However, we are a fully remote company and have employees throughout North America. Alpine IQ partners with Retailers and Brands in every legalized market in the U.S. and Canada.

Alpine IQ makes data clean and actionable for its users. Our data management products give customers access to e-commerce, data lake, marketing, analytics tools, and more. Customers can also use Alpine IQ for compliance automation. The company’s platform allows retailers to create consumer experiences. Alpine IQ has loyalty programs, omnichannel messaging, web apps, and native apps.

The company integrates with most of the cannabis technology stack, including point-of-sale and e-commerce systems. The company’s platform serves as a nexus for all data, giving Alpine IQ customers a view of their business from a single spot.

In May of 2022, We launched our Brands platform, which will help brands achieve shared objectives with their retail partners. This new product gives brands insight into how they are performing in retail outlets and enables them to leverage performance drivers, such as loyalty programs and collectible products.

We are continuing to innovate and improve our platform.
