Life and Work with Ally Deaver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Deaver.

Ally, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my blogging journey in February 2018. I started posting outfit pictures on my Instagram (@allydeaver) and sharing my style with my followers. I have always loved fashion and beauty, so I finally decided to take the plunge and start something that I had always dreamed of doing. After weeks of website designing, I officially launched Always Ally in April 2018. I chose the name, Always Ally, because I felt like it was short and sweet but also explained that I, Ally, was going to be honest at all times when sharing fashion and beauty tips. I also end each blog post by saying (Always, Ally) so I thought it was the perfect name for my blog. Here I am, almost a year later, and I couldn’t be happier.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anyone who is starting something new always faces struggles. It’s not easy putting yourself out there and being vulnerable with your passions. I have definitely felt judged at times, and that’s not easy for anyone, but the judgment has ultimately motivated me to work harder. On that same note, you are your worst critic. I think most young women have many insecurities that truly, no one but themselves notice. My advice for girls who are just starting their journey would have to be to have confidence. Don’t hold back on something you have dreamed of just because you’re nervous of what other people might think.

Please tell us about Always Ally.
My self appointed title is a fashion and lifestyle blogger. I am also a hairstylist. I went to cosmetology school right out of high school, and I absolutely love it, but blogging has stolen my heart. After I’m off of work at the salon, I work on my blog throughout the rest of the night and I couldn’t be happier. I mainly blog about fashion and style. I share outfits daily on my Instagram and try to have one blog post up a week. I work with RewardStyle which is also known as, and that was a huge step in my business. I mainly share affordable fashion with my followers which I think they appreciate. I love the sale rack and I can always find a good deal!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Having a mentor or a guide is important when starting a blog. Although I didn’t have a direct mentor, I would message a ton of my favorite bloggers asking for advice. I would also read blog posts on how to start a blog, join Facebook groups and read all of the threads about similar questions I had. I did a lot of research on the internet about starting a blog and that was the biggest help for me.
