Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Chausenko.
Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in the middle of the Texas Hill Country and moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota where I received a Bachelor’s degree in music (flute performance). I took acting and modeling classes at Caryn International before moving to Amarillo, Texas to attend pharmacy school and sign with Anderson Model & Talent Agency. From there, I accepted a pharmacy residency program in Denver and signed with Wilhelmina Denver. Eventually, I decided to become a freelance model while also working as a full-time pharmacist. The past two and a half years have been amazing in terms of pursuing my modeling career while also expanding my professional career. I love the juxtaposition of having both scientific and creative ambitions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has definitely not been short of obstacles. From a complete change in career path to push-back and reluctance to being hired when you’re first starting out in an industry, I have had to carve out a name and a niche for myself over time. My advice for those pursuing the career of their dreams is to work hard, invest the necessary time and money into your interests, and look for alternative ways to accomplish your goals if they seem implausible. Also, while there will always be negativity from others, your own attitude should always be positive.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with iznicole.com – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
By day, I’m a full-time pharmacy manager for a major grocery store chain in the Denver area. I specialize in community pharmacy, which places an emphasis on point-of-care clinical services, medication therapy management, and immunizations. By “night,” or more accurately, in my spare time, I’m a freelance model with an emphasis in fashion, print, and promotional modeling. This year, I released a new website, iznicole.com, which prioritizes my modeling work and blog, and will soon offer items for purchase including calendars, clothing, and maybe a swimsuit line(!) I think my diverse interests and unusual background set me apart from others and focusing on both right- and left-brained talents keep me well-balanced.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
All of the books by pharmacist Suzy Cohen (who lives in Boulder) have inspired me and made me want to write more. The Great Love Debate podcast by Brian Howie is a guilty pleasure that focuses on all aspects of love, dating, and relationships. As for apps, you gotta have Reddit, and for the modeling world, Instagram is a must-have as well as Facebook.
