Life and Work with Reena Weaver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reena Weaver.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Reena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my blog-style Instagram account, or as I like to call my #instablog, at the end of 2018. I had been interested in starting a blog-style account for years but was always too nervous to go ahead and start one. I wanted a fun, creative outlet for myself and knew that Instagram was the perfect platform due to my lifelong love of photography, but I was still scared. After a lot of encouragement and support from the biggest supporter of my dreams (my husband!!!), I went ahead and started my #instablog account, @_rosegoldreena!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In any venture or risk you take in life, there will be struggles. Growing and maintaining a consistent account is extremely difficult and starting @_rosegoldreena has only grown my respect for others using Instagram as a platform. (Seriously though!!) Account growth has been a bit slower than I expected, and it is hard to not compare my progress with others. Additionally, posting my thoughts and feelings publicly is a difficult and scary thing to do. That being said, it has been such a fun and rewarding endeavor and I am so glad to have started my #instablog. To any of you who may be on the fence about starting something new, honestly, ask yourself—if I didn’t try, would I regret it in five years? Additionally, know that there will always be setbacks and struggles, but if it’s truly what you’re meant to be doing, it will be worth it in the end!

Please tell us about your work.
@_Rosegoldreena is a lifestyle and motherhood Instagram account. It is a place where I share my thoughts on life, motherhood, marriage, faith, beauty, travel, food, etc. I have really enjoyed the community aspect of the app, and in the few months of running my account, I have already made friends and connections through Instagram. Most importantly though, I want to be a ray of positivity to all who follow me. Social media can get a bad rep, but I really believe in intentionally using social media for good. Through Instagram, we all have influence. If we use our influence to build each other up rather than tearing each other down, we can each do our part in making our world a better place.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
My biggest piece of advice: Don’t be afraid to reach out to people!!! As in everything, you take a risk when doing so, but networking and building connections are essential for growth. I have messaged many of my favorite bloggers who I greatly look up to, and 9/10 times, they have messaged me back and been incredible sources of encouragement and inspiration in this #instablog adventure. SO, worth the risk!!
