Life and Work with Sara Jean Almeida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Jean Almeida.

Sara Jean, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working with many different art mediums at a young age. I found myself getting lost in painting and drawing all through my childhood and teenage years. I often felt otherworldly and loved escaping into my imagination. My mother was an Esthetician and makeup artist who always encouraged me to celebrate my individuality. She started buying me makeup in high school. I remember her giving me all kinds of different colored eyeshadows. I loved being colorful and everchanging. I believe makeup can be such a phenomenal form of radical self-expression. My career in makeup artistry blossomed through sharing my art on Instagram. Since then, I’ve been able to connect and work with so many incredible people. I feel blessed for all the intimate moments I’ve shared with them. There is something so indescribable to be said about watching another human bask in their beauty. Makeup artistry is truly healing work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve definitely had my share of challenging moments. I was pregnant all through my esthetic program and ended up graduating with honors. I’ve also learned through managing anxiety for many years that patience and compassion for yourself on your journey to self-discovery is so very important. Believe in yourself, believe in your magic always. And If something is calling to you, listen. Listen to your heart. Art has taught me one of my greatest life lessons: If you don’t like something, change it. Make it something you love, something you’re proud of!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a makeup artist, reiki practitioner, and holistic Esthetician. I specialize in editorial makeup artistry, bridal work, and energy healing. I’m most proud of my use of textures, I believe they evoke emotion. I’ve also integrated energy work into my makeup artistry and I think this is what sets me apart from others. Creating with intention. Holding space for others while in intimate settings or not is so important to me. I want always for the moments I share with them to be filled with love and beauty.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love reading about energy work and looking at all the different art magazines and books in stores or online. Instagram is also such a cool place to discover artwork. I feel like I stumble across a new artist almost every day. I’m forever in awe of the creativity our world possesses.
