Life and Work with Tam John

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tam John.

Tam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Thank you so much for having me.  For many years, I was a ‘corporate thriver’ as a top sales producer for tech companies and the President of a Best in Class Tech Company I founded in Denver, CO. I loved the constant change, fast pace and ability to make a difference in people’s lives by being great at my job. Then, over the course of the last years of my corporate career, I began to feel my energy struggle. My enjoyment of life was severely stifled. My very mobility was becoming an issue. Inner inflammation was presenting itself outwardly. I experienced a cascade of severe dysfunction in my body.

I began following the trail to Physicians and Practitioners to figure out what was going on and how I could restore myself. The information I received was mostly conflicting.  Then I met a wise person who explained how my food choices were a causative factor in what ailed my body. I wasn’t perfect, but according to American standards, I ate a clean and healthy diet. You see, creating health had always been something I valued. Had I known my choices weren’t serving me well, I would have chosen otherwise.

I began peeling back my beliefs, habits, and choices. I began to learn the healing power of food, how nourishment works, and not all healthy food is healthful for everyone and how it takes ingenuity to eat healthfully with this modern food system. I removed offensive food I used to think of as healthy and added truly healing food for my body. I emphasize the personalized approach because I learned what’s healthful for my body.  We are all unique as our fingerprint. Beautiful snowflakes if you will!

I am so enthralled by the restorative power of personally healthful choices. I left the corporate world, went back to school, changed my life entirely with so much less stress and now I guide others to restore and keep their wellness as a lifestyle.

I’ve developed the EatRight-LiveWell™ holistic system for Smarter Self Care. It’s a private practice, serving companies and individuals.

In 2018 my first book ‘A Fresh Wellness Mindset’ was published. It’s a guide for people to implement a personally healthful food life. So many people are trying to find the perfect diet, navigate food sensitivities and allergens including gluten. When we are guessing around the modern food supply, it is frustrating and often unproductive, leading to discomfort that can easily be avoided. The book isn’t about a diet.  It is about finding a food life that works for life.  It ties perfectly to the Zero Deprivation Promise detailed on my website.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has been bumpy as all get out.  I have been challenged in ways that have been daunting.  It’s all deeply personal. I respect everyone has deeply personal daunting challenges.  Everything is always working out even with the bumps in the road. It’s all part of living and learning. But of course a smooth ride always feels better!

When I’ve felt in the thick of sorting out my personal journey it remains an ever-evolving process to listen to my heart. I am far from perfect and the beautiful thing is I don’t try to be perfect nearly as hard as I used to.  And I am much happier than ever before.

The best thing about the road of life is putting the struggle and seeming mistakes in the rear view mirror, and then looking forward.  The truth I have learned is that shame is a lie.  I believe shame is at the root of struggle. I have struggled it was because I had compromised the truth that shame is so good at veiling.  More to come on the topic of shame from me, as I am developing a new offering called ‘Bye Bye Shame’.

Please tell us about EatRight-LiveWell.
Thank you for asking about my company! EatRight-LiveWell™ is my company.  Around it I have built a holistic system for Smarter Self Care.  As a Nutritionist by training I have come to know that people do not want to be told what to eat!  And Nutritionist implies deprivation to many.  Sure they may want meal plan guidance and a list of to do’s and to don’ts.  Working with me, people learn how to be better thinkers and that true nourishment equates to delicious satisfaction.

Providing people universal truths about nourishing themselves well is the basis of my company offering.  At EatRight-LiveWell I take it way up by identifying personally healthful choices which of course includes food and beverages.  Beyond that the system includes integrative choices like stress recovery, motion, and rest which are huge factors that play into how well a person feels.  It’s all about guiding people to their wellness wishes with ease and micro steps that feel good and taste deliciously satisfying.

I guide to get to the root of the outward signs and symptoms (like weight, sleep patterns, digestive system, blood sugar imbalance, mood/anxiety/stress/etc and anything else) with assessments and testing.  The stress component of wellness is so important because even good stress is stressful.  Over time stress breaks down healthy function.

I’ve developed a proprietary Company Wellness Program that can be customized for each organization, whether done in a lunch ‘n learn or a 3 week one hour classes.  The premise is brilliant to guide people to optimize performance and feel better whether at work or in their personal lives.

I’ve also developed Lighten Up Cleanse ™, a three-week tele-class to shift mindset and habit transformation. This is the basis for choosing beyond what’s ailing a vibrant life.

Every offering EatRight-LiveWell has is based on the Zero Deprivation Promise.  All are welcome to schedule a complimentary 15-30 minute phone conversation with me via my website to ask Qs and find out if the EatRight-LiveWell approach is right for them.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I’ve just discovered the work of Gay Hendricks. I am mesmerized with his book ‘The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level.” Now, I am starting ‘Five Wishes’ also by Gay Hendricks.

Dr. Kelly Brogan’s book ‘A Mind of Your Own’ is tops.

Paulo Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’ is a classic in my opinion.

I am a big fan of Albert Einstein. The work of John Assaraf is excellent.  Both of these gentlemen impart the basis of energy as life.

And I love the writing of Rumi.

The work of the late Dr. Wayne Dyer opened me to much healing.

There are so many brilliant authors and presenters of information today. It seems I am constantly on a webinar, reading a nutrition science book, attending a seminar or taking a class. I like the blend of scientific knowledge and nurturing creativity.
