Life & Work with Cestlavi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cestlavi.

Hi Cestlavi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Denver, Colorado but most of my early childhood was spent in California. My life was rough as a kid to say the least, but I had my older brother. During this rough time, my brother showed me how to write music as a mean for escaping reality. Then reality came crashing down once he ran away. Only having music to vent about the things I’ve witnessed or experienced coming up, I became closer to my raps and eventually decided to master my craft. Fast forward 20 years and now I am taking this music further than my brother or anyone in my family ever has. From making it onto Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and various other music platforms; to completing and releasing my debut project, “The Bar Exam.” I have done things that no one in my family can say they have done. I won’t stop there though as my passion to be the greatest artist of my generation fuels me to be better. Not only better with my music but better with the business end of music as well. This is my second year of pushing for a serious label deal but my whole life I’ve spent trying to sharpen my skills. Now I’m ready to show the world just how beautiful my art is! The name Cestlavi was derived from the French saying “C’est La Vie.” Which translates to “Such Is Life.” Or “Life Is Life.” Basically indicating it is what it is, and it is always what is meant to be.” That mentality and philosophical approach to life is what birthed the Artist Cestlavi. That name and my job as an artist with that name is to give my listeners hope that even though things seem bad now life will always bring you what is needed. So that is my story pretty much in a nutshell. I have so many people relying on my ability to make impossible things happen and that’s what I plan to do. I just need more people to hear me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
– Living in a low-income home – Abuse & Abandonment
– Struggles with school and friends
– Having little siblings to be there for
– Not having a team or the right support to chase my dream.
– Having an entire family not believe in me. (this was my biggest obstacle)

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a rapper but I do not rap. I tell stories using wordplay and literary devices. I am known for this and most proud of it too. What sets me apart from everyone else is the fact that I have a sound that is unique and I stay on topic very well. You don’t hear a song from me titled one thing and then I’m in the song talking about something completely different. My ability to connect the verse to the hook is something not commonly found amongst my peers.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My Family. They motivate me to do things I never would have dreamed of.

My supporters: without them I wouldn’t be here.

My Mom: if it wasn’t for how she raised me I would probably be dead and not rapping about my life.

But what makes me truly happy is to see that I have a legit shot to make a change in music because generational talent only comes around once in a lifetime.
