Life & Work with Maryam Saemi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryam Saemi.

Hi Maryam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always had a dream to be in the cosmetology field. Art has always been part of my life. It’s my way to express myself, to connect to people and as in my job, to make people feel good about themselves. I was aware of obstacles ahead of me like to support my family and to go to school, to be able to be around my toddler, dealing with some heavy readings and understanding since English is not my native language. Then the unexpected happened. My dad became very ill back home. I had to leave the US to be with him on his last days. I had two choices to either be depressed or on the contrary, become stronger and have my dad’s dream come true. I chose the latter. Then the second unexpected; the pandemic happened in the middle of the school. The school closed but I kept myself busy with my numerous mannequin projects. Sometimes, I had to give my husband a heads up before he came into the house! After the school reopened, we weren’t taking people as models. It was hurting our practicing ability but we had no choice because of the pandemic. In spite of all of what happened, I never wanted to be a “quitter” but to follow my dreams.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were some expected “bumpy roads” ahead but the unexpected were harder to deal with.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am licensed in cosmetology from an accredited school in Colorado. I also have certificates in permanent make-up, eyelash extensions and a master of balayage. Making colors the way my clients asked for is something I am a master of. I love to hear the word “wow” along with a big smile when I am done. It makes my day! My slogan is “always be gorgeous and feel good about yourself” and I know ways to do it!

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’d like to be in a happy, positive, high vibes environment or at least I try to make it that way. I have low expectations from others; maybe the biggest is to be fair and square.
