Meet Allison White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison White.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Allison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up moving around the Midwest, where I was loved and supported by two incredibly hardworking parents and three fun-loving sisters. Moving about every three years growing up really sparked my love for adventure and travel at a young age. My senior year of high school, we moved to Minnesota and that is really where I fell in love with the outdoors. I attended college at Winona State University, which is the most picturesque university nestled along the bluffs of the Mississippi river in southeast Minnesota.

I graduated and knew that I wanted to work at a marketing agency. So, I went out and did a lot of applying and networking. It took some time but I finally ended up at an incredible agency and started working with a client on their shopper marketing strategy. During the week I would head into the office and on the weekends me and my boyfriend would go camping, traveling, hiking and exploring different cities. And this is really where I started to get asked by everyone how we did it.

How do you travel to a different place every weekend? How do you afford it? How do you take pictures like that? Who takes those pictures of you hiking? How? How? How? And as all these questions flooded my Instagram DM’s and Facebook messenger, I started to wonder if this was something that I could write about. I love writing, taking pictures and being creative so I started talking about my travels on my Instagram and then eventually my blog, Look About Allie. In a life that was hectic with client work and late-night deadlines, my blog became my creative outlet.

When Phillip, my boyfriend, and I were approached with an opportunity to move to Colorado, we couldn’t refuse. We both love the outdoors so much and what better place to live when you love the outdoors than Colorado?! My blog has really begun to take off here since there is so much to explore and write about this great state. On the weekends we go and explore different mountain towns or towns in the Denver metro and I write about them. I write about the local cheese or soap shops, the best places to get ice cream or grab a beer and of course the best places to eat because we’re big foodies!

For the last few years, I’ve been jumping on a plane or taking a road trip any chance I can get, so I thought, why not write about it? I truly believe travel and new experiences shouldn’t be dreamt about but should instead be something that’s part of your everyday life. My life’s passion is to share my travels with others and to show them how travel can be realistic for them too. I hope my experiences inspire them to find the hidden gems in their small town or book that next flight…all while on a budget and working full time!

Has it been a smooth road?
I try to always put a positive spin on any situation that I am dealing with, you can ask my sister. There have definitely been a few bumps in the road, but I truly believe that is why I have reached the success that I have. If it was always smooth sailing, I don’t think I would appreciate the successes or wins as much as I do.

I have been told no countless times. I have pitched hundreds of articles to local magazines or cities and have been told no. I’ve been laughed at or made fun of for wanting to take pictures for my blog and Instagram. Again, I was told no. I was told no 10 ten times before I was told yes once. My most recent “yes” came from a local city wanting to collaborate about a day trip to their city and all the fun things to do there. That “yes” is why I persist in following my dream every day. It’s not easy and there are always struggles, but I refuse to live a mediocre life. I want to live a life that is full of adventure, kindness, love and perseverance.

I know I will continue to face challenges and struggles, I’m a hiker so I look at any challenge like hiking a 14er. Slow and steady wins the race.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Look About Allie is my travel blog where I post about all my travels and adventures. I believe there is this misconception that “travel” means you have to get on an airplane, go on a long road trip, or it costs a lot of money, but I truly believe that you can explore and find hidden gems in your very own town while on a budget! So, I write about the towns around me. On the weekends or weeknights, I go and explore different cities around me and share what I discovered with the hope that it will encourage other people to go out and explore!

I would say Look About Allie is most known for showcasing how I plan weekend and day trips around Colorado. I also enjoy finding new and fun events around the state to attend. Most recently, I found a hot air balloon festival that was unlike any event I had ever attended. It was incredible to watch over 30 hot air balloons take off in the mountains. So I really love to find unique events like that happening around the state. Each month I create a list of fun and unique events happening around Colorado and share it with my email subscribers. It’s a great way to encourage them to get out and explore without them having to do the research in finding these events. I love when I get pictures or emails of them attending events I sent them in my monthly newsletter.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Arvada is a great city to go out and explore. It feels like there is always a new restaurant or boutique to checkout. Olde Town Arvada is home to some of my favorite local restaurants and it is also a great place to walk around while sipping an iced coffee. There is so much to see and do in Arvada and I would definitely recommend it to everyone!
