Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Lisojo.
Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As long as I can remember I’ve been obsessed with clothes and footwear. I taught myself to screen print. I would develop screens in my attic. I started making t-shirts to match my sneakers. I put a few of my designs on eBay and they sold! I was amped and there was no turning back. I’ve been growing as a designer ever since. Screen printing lead into hand made applique and applique have taken me into cut and sew. Developing and designing my own patterns has most of my attention these days.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life will always hand you challenges. I often struggle with making exactly what I want to make or catering for a profit. I also struggle with fast fashion, its exploitation of workers and our environment. It’s the main reason I don’t have a wholesale line and why I’ve stuck to the one-offs.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Lisojo.Co makes custom apparel and accessories. This past year we had some proud moments: Our Love Child Varsity reflective crew made a feature in rapper Redman’s video Trap House. We also walked a collection in collaboration with artist Chris Haven for Denver Fashion Week.
I say what sets us apart from other independent brands, we personally make what we design. Creating one of a kind items that are as unique as the people who wear them.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Riding my bicycle around the neighborhood with my sister and brother all day.
