Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Warren, Julie Curtis Van Zijl and Heather Garcia.
Angie, Julie and Heather, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Associates III will celebrate our 50th year in business in 2021. Based in Denver from the very start, our first projects were in Summit County and, from there, we expanded to work in the mountain resort areas of Vail, Aspen and beyond. As we honed our craft, our team designed interiors for boutique hospitality projects, spas, and multi-family projects on the way to realizing our true affinity for designing custom interiors for residential single-family homes. We learned that the close, personal connection to each individual client and their vision for home is what infuses our design aesthetics and sparks our imaginations.
Known for our attention to detail, our team delights in creating luxury homes that also preserve the natural environment. For the past several decades, our owner and design leadership found clear purpose in incorporating sustainability into all aspects of our designs and our operations. We work closely with our clients, our team, our network, and our manufacturers to determine the environmental impact of our design selections. This purpose is the core of our business model and informs every decision. Associates III has won numerous awards for a variety of sustainable residences, written a design pamphlet on our transition to a green design firm, and published two editions of the book, Sustainable Residential Interiors, with Wiley and Sons.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having been in business for nearly 50 years, we have experienced so many incredibly wonderful years and, inevitably, have weathered our share of struggles, too. We find that creatively navigating these challenges allows us to continually refine our processes and streamline our services to be responsive to the current market.
Associates III Interior Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a residential interior design firm, our team is unusual for exactly that: working as team. Often, when compared to an individual designer, that extra team element can be a hard concept to understand and, therefore, erroneously equated to a higher price tag, when the opposite is often true. Each client works directly with one of our Senior Designers, who are all equally wonderful, and benefits from both their individual attentive service and the design expertise of the entire team. We believe creativity thrives in collaboration and foster this among our project teams.
Known as advocates for making “green” choices, we are recognized as meticulous about quality, attentive to small details and passionate about eco-friendly designs. With sustainability embedded in what we do, our team endeavors to express each homeowner’s personality and distinctive style through intentional design choices, whether the aesthetic is contemporary, traditional or eclectic.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
Considering how much upheaval our lives are currently experiencing, one thing that never changes is that we like meeting and working with nice people who find value in our services and enjoy building life-long, lasting relationships with our clients and project teams. As with most other companies and industries, we are ever-increasing our ability to share information virtually through the use of available technology. Last, yet certainly NOT least, we are looking to take on more projects focused on environmental stewardship in land, materials, and practices.
