Meet Anthony Camera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Camera.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a professional photographer in Denver specializing in editorial and commercial portraits. I am probably best known for shooting the majority of Westword Magazines cover stories over the past 20 years. I have a studio / Gallery at 960 Santa-Fe Dr in the heart of Denver’s Santa-Fe arts district which has a very popular First Friday Arts Walk.

Often I will take advantage of this situation by setting up a unique setting and asking people in the crowd to pose for me. I call it the Portrait Parade and I have accumulated thousands of wonderful portraits over the years. I love this project because it never goes as planned and I end up with portraits that are so much more interesting than I could have imagined by allowing my subjects to play in the setting and collaborate with me in creating a story to photograph. Many of these portraits are available to see on my website, Facebook or Instagram, I started my career in 1995 when I went to NYC where I worked assisting fashion and celebrity photographers and then worked at the Space studio in what is now the Google offices in the Chelsea Market. In 1996, I came back to Denver and I shot my first story for Westword about the Douglas County coroner, then located in a farmhouse off I-25 in Castle rock were the dead were stored in refrigerators in a shed behind the building….not quite CSI.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Professional photography is a career filled with many obstacles and constant challenges. It’s not only very competitive but requires constant adaption to changes in the marketplace. What was profitable a couple of years ago will not work today. You can never relax, you must continually find new commercial clients and then enough good clients to prosper. Even as an established photographer I must regularly reinvent myself to stay relevant.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Anthony Camera Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Denver based professional photographer specializing in commercial, editorial, and advertising photography. With over 25 years of experience, I shoot in the studio and on location. I work in all types of commercial photography shooting corporate and editorial portraits, product and web sites. I often receive assignments to work with Colorado’s well-known politicians, celebrities and entertainers.

My photography studio is located in Denver, Colorado’s world famous Santa-Fe Arts District. I often open it up during the districts First Friday Art Walks where you can find me shooting a personal project I call the Portrait Parade. The portrait parade is a project I have been developing for many years where I pull visitors to my studio out of the crowd and ask them to pose in a set I created for the evening. Its a very collaborative project, my subjects and I work together with the pops and the evenings set to create unique portraits that tell stories.

And yes, Camera is my real last name.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am planning to create a coffee table book from my Portrait Parade Project. Then I am taking it on the road! I want to go around the world photographing as many fun and interesting people I can.
