Today we’re excited to introduce you to Brannon Peterkin. Brannon is the Owner of Think In Boxes and is also a content partner. Check out our conversation with Brannon below.
Hi Brannon, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
Hi! My name is Brannon Peterkin. I am the CEO and founder of Think In Boxes, LLC. I help ensure that every one of our clients experiences the best that technology has to offer when it comes to business. I am a full-fledged fan of technology. My love for technology started in middle school. I loved playing video games and wanted to learn how to make one. We had quarterly scholastic book fairs, and there was one book that caught my attention – Learn to Program BASIC. The cover was awesome and stated that by the end of the book, you would know how to create a computer game. My parents ordered the book, and man I went though it in a heartbeat. I was so excited because I had created a little platforming game (looking back, it was horrible haha…the graphics, programming logic, everything was just horrible haha). I continued to practice coding and by the time I got to college I originally wanted to become a full-fledged game designer. After my first semester in college, I had learned that you could do so much more with technology. You could fundamentally change people’s lives and make their day easier with custom developed technology-based solutions. While video games were cool, my focus had shifted. I knew that at that point, I wanted to find a way to help people using technology. I wanted as many people to be able to see and experience all of the amazing functions of technology. I wanted them to get just as excited about how technology could make their lives easier. That ended up becoming the foundation of what has become the goal of Think In Boxes.
Of all of the services you offer, why offer web development?
There is just something about a website that is truly custom built, that just catches user’s attention. There are many great tools out there that allow people to go and create a website in 5-30 minutes. While the tools are easy to use, there is only so much that you can do within the platforms. Because of that, you now see so many sites where the layout and flow is almost identical to each other (aside from the pictures, colors, and text). We began asking people who used these platforms why they used them and it almost always came down to price and that they didn’t know how to develop a website. We wanted to try and address this issue. We firmly believe that every business is unique and that your identity should reflect your unique business. We know that web development can be complicated but we wanted to find a way to make it simple and address the affordability issue that many users indicated. By offering our web development service, we figured that it would allow everyone to have access to have a truly custom developed website that reflects exactly what they want, but without the high price tag that causes them to turn to one of the pre-built solutions. You don’t have to spend time learning how to become a professional website developer, because you would now have access to your own website development team. We believe this truly makes website development simple and affordable for everyone.
What is a Fortune 500 quality result? Is that truly a tangible measurement of service for a business owner?
There is a conception that when a business has more money, they get better quality service or a better quality end result. Think of it like this – a company like Apple, Inc. may be able to afford a top of the line marketing firm and business intelligence partner compared to an entrepreneur that is just starting this business. Service providers may treat a company like Apple, Inc. differently than a startup company. Because of that conception, we absolutely believe it is a tangible measurement of service for a business owner. You don’t want a partner who treats different businesses with different quality and deliverable standards. You want someone who has an absolute quality standard across the board for every person they interact with.
Does a small business or startup really need an IT team, or is that something they can hold off on until they grow to a mid-sized business?
It may sound weird coming from a technology consulting firm, but not every small business or startup needs a full-fledged IT team. It all comes down to taking the time to legitimately understand the goals of the business. There is a never-ending flood of service providers who will try to force their managed IT team services onto a client when it just doesn’t make sense for what the business is trying to achieve. Now there are some small businesses and startups who will absolutely need a team (even if it’s not a full-sized IT team). What matters to us is that the time is taken to learn about you and your business and that the business owner sees us as another member of their in-house team.
What is your startup accelerator service?
We are really excited about this service! It was born out of a think tank session and a discussion with several business owners. Each one of the business owners said that there was a point in the beginning phases of their startup where they wish they could just have a logo, website, marketing, and everything just done at once so they didn’t have to worry about it. We all chuckled and then thought, “wait…why isn’t anyone offering this? It actually would be wildly helpful!” So, our startup accelerator makes starting your business simple and affordable. For those who have an idea for a business and are in the beginning phase of their journey, Think In Boxes provides custom logo design, hosted email, Office 365, website design and management, and digital marketing (this includes the initial market research and campaign generation). This is all done simultaneously so that when the owner is ready to launch, they are running on all cylinders. Think In Boxes, works closely with the business to handle their IT needs and opens up that headspace for the business owner to focus on the other aspects of their business. It is a true all in one service that allows startups to fast track their launch.
Think In Boxes focuses on making technology simple. Does that water down the services that are offered? How does Think In Boxes handle the complex parts of technology?
When we use the phrase “making technology simple” it doesn’t imply watering down the service at all. We love technology, but understand that depending on the solution, it can be wildly complex. It gives us a chance to exercise our problem solving, analytical and creative muscles. Making technology simple means that you get the desired end result without having to deal with the complex aspects of technology. Whether it’s automating a business process, providing a custom developed website or app, or implementing a time and money saving process for your business, we handle the technology aspect so that you don’t have to.
