Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Cates.
Brooke, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Seven years ago, I saw a need – a need to empower women during their pregnancies and postpartum journey’s. I wanted to empower them to know that they didn’t have to be injured from their pregnancies and that if they found themselves injured [diastasis recti, or pelvic floor injuries like incontinence or prolapse] that there way hope, a way to heal themselves and come out even stronger on the other side of motherhood.
I struggled with women feeling like they had to stop exercising during pregnancy or that peeing their pants postpartum was normal. I wanted women to know their true power and to know that pregnancy and postpartum could actually make us stronger, not weaker.
Thus my journey began… I started working with clients 1:1 and after four years turned The Bloom Method into a group fitness method. In May of 2018, I took our Boulder-based brick and mortar concept online and The Bloom Method is currently helping women globally to regain a sense of self and become stronger than ever before. Motherhood only makes us stronger and allows us the ability to tap into our bodies deeper than ever before!!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business can be a funny thing but based on my experience, when you’re passionate about what you’re doing and believe in its power to help and transform the lives of others, things simply workout. At least, that’s how every step or evolution of The Bloom Method has been. From training a full schedule of clients 1:1 to the expansion of our first brick and mortar studio and shifting gears into a more predominant group fitness model, to our most recent launch of the first ever pre + postnatal online studio with Studio Bloom. Each step has happened in such an energetic and “meant to” kind of way. Now, none of this has happened when I wanted it to, no each step has taken time to evolve but when I reflect on each stage of this methodology, I can see my years of manifesting my visions so clearly. I’ve always said “Dream big or else why are you dreaming” and I will continue to do that with The Bloom Method. We are redefining the way modern women move + exercise to train for their birth marathons, prevent + heal common pregnancy-related injuries, and ultimately helping them feel empowered on a new level as they step into motherhood. We will continue to grow and I will continue to put as much love as possible into each venture so that The Bloom Method remains complete labor of love and desire to create change!
Please tell us about The Bloom Method/Studio Bloom.
Like I mentioned earlier, The Bloom Method is redefining pre + postnatal fitness. We believe in the power of a woman and know that during the stages leading into motherhood and motherhood itself women have the ability to become even stronger and more connected to their bodies than ever before. In fact, it’s something we hear often from our moms – “I’ve never been more connected to my core than during pregnancy” or “my core is much stronger even two weeks postpartum than pre-pregnancy.” The Bloom Method is like a challenging fitness class infused with your favorite childbirth class [if you’re taking our BirthPREP class] and physical therapy. What we teach isn’t just fitness for moms, it’s an innovative method that helps women create more efficiency during their workouts by connecting to their pelvic floors, cores, and the primary muscle group we work in various exercises. This method is about smart, effective, forms of intentional movement + breath that will shift the way women workout and move for life.
The Bloom Method is known for its innovative and cutting edge to take on the core during pregnancy while providing powerful re-strengthing results for women in the postpartum phase. We don’t tend to follow the crowd and that catches peoples attention. We are okay with pushing boundaries and comfort zones to help women on new levels. Its kind of like the idea around “the old ways weren’t working so we changed things up a bit and envoke a new type of change.” Our core methods aren’t just about staying strong and connected either, our methods are allowing women to experience a more comfortable pregnancy [less back pain, pelvic pain, and other discomforts associated with carrying a baby], as well as learning how to push effectively for birth, prevening diastasis recti, pelvic floor incontinence, and prolapse while healing faster on the other side and gaining better core results for life by simply applying a new form of core connection through the techniques we teach. Our belly pumping technique is a favorite with moms all over the world as it teaches simple forms of diaphragmatic breath [one of our foundations of true core strength] and an intentional activation of both the pelvic floor and TVA [the corset muscle] to allow for an easy to do [anywhere] core exercise during pregnancy. This technique has paved the way in the industry and is putting safe core exercise back into expecting women’s hands. It’s truly revolutionary.
When I think about being proud of The Bloom Method, I think of all the women who have implemented the method in various ways and have experienced massive success from it. This fills me with a sense of pride I simply cannot put words too. These women are why are created this method and why I continue to evolve it, working hard every day to make it accessible for any woman, anywhere. I’d say I’m proud of where I’ve taken the method – from 1:1 client in Boulder, Colorado to a global online platform – but that is a simple manifestation of something I am passionate about, something I believe can change the way that women see and experience pregnancy and motherhood. Growth is inevitable when your gift can envoke a powerful change. 🙂
The Bloom Method is different from other pre + postnatal fitness and movement methods because of its all-encompassing approach. Applying our methods teaches things far beyond a simple group fitness workout and can be carried over into any fitness method to provide even more efficiency of said method or workout well into motherhood.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Swinging on the swing that hung from a large oak tree at my grandparent’s house. I did a lot of “growing up” in that swing and remember it vividly.
