Meet Casey Wigotow of Two One Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Wigotow.

Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Two One Photography began in the winter of 2009. I was working as an Executive Assistant for a Financial firm and wasn’t loving what I was doing. I always felt like I wanted more for my life and I love being creative. I was at a wine tasting with friends, and two of them were photographers (the amazing, Brinton Studios). They were looking to hire another person to help with their business since their business was growing so much.

I had never picked up a camera, but I wanted to try it out. I photographed a wedding with them as a third photographer, and I loved it! We then decided to build a business where they would teach me photography, pass referrals to me as well as show me the ropes in the wedding industry. They were incredible teachers and partners. We were partners for four years. On January 1, 2014, we legally changed ownership of the company from their name to my name. They took a chance on me and taught me about photography, business and life skills. I will always be so grateful for this, and we are still great friends today!

I find that you only get somewhere by taking chances. Everyone thought I was crazy for wanting to have a wedding photography business without having the skill. I trusted my gut and went with it. Sometimes things are meant to happen, and this is one of those situations. Like I said, I had never picked up a camera before that first wedding. Once I started shooting, I fell in love with it and had to learn as much as I could as fast as I could. The business took off, the first year I photographed ten weddings, and now we photograph over 50 weddings a year and at least 100 other events/shoots. Two One has had the honor of winning multiple awards, and I have traveled all over the world for photo shoots. We hired an associate photographer, my sister in law:), Vanessa Miranda who did the same thing I did under the Brinton’s.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think one of the biggest struggles was learning the skill of photography and also have enough confidence in myself to go from Finance to being a wedding photographer and then to own a business. I can have the issue of being too nice and that can lead to being walked on, and when you own a business, you have to be a boss, strong and confident. Of course, any learning experience and business experience will have mistakes and oops. I try to always learn from that mistake, not dwell on it, stay positive and not be too hard on myself. I try to grow and be better.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Two One Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Two One Photography specializes in wedding photography, portraits, commercial and event photography. We began in 2009 and are based in Denver, CO. I have been the lead photographer on over 500 weddings. I have had the honor or shooting events in London, Monaco, France, the Caribean, Hawaii and all over the United States. We have won Best of Weddings with The Knot Magazine for seven years, Wedding Wire Couple’s Choice Award for six years and we recently won Lux Life Magazine’s Global Wedding Award-Best High-End Photographer for 2018.

Vanessa Miranda (my sister in law and best friend) joined Two One in 2016. She photographs about 15-20 weddings per year and multiple events.

My mother, (Karen Wigotow) has also been a massive part of our success. She has photographed weddings with me as a second photographer and has been our biggest support since the beginning.

I think what sets us apart is the connection we develop with our clients. We want to connect with the client and go above and beyond. The connection and comfortability begin with communication and making a relationship. We want to capture what the client’s vision is. It’s not the easiest to be photographed during a special moment so we try and make it fun, comfortable and easy.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
As locals to the metro Denver area, we have really loved watching this city grow. Our favorite thing about the city is the beauty and personality. I love all of the little coffee shops and local business’ around. It’s also relaxed, fun and beautiful. It’s so convenient to be able to experience the hustle and bustle of the city but also be 30 minutes away from solitude and nature.

Our least favorite thing about Denver is the traffic.
