Meet Chelsea and Stephen Chasman of Edges & Dreams in West Side of Littleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea and Stephen Chasman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In a small niche sport like figure skating, there aren’t many pro shops developed by figure skaters for figure skaters. We created Edges & Dreams to fill the void. At the end of our ice dancing careers together around 2011, we began coaching at Edge Ice Arena and saw a need for our own students, and other skaters at our home rink, to be fit properly for their equipment. We saw a need in the Denver area for a figure skating specific shop to cater to just what a figure skater needs. Our store has grown year after year due to our love of the sport and the desire to take excellent care of every customer that comes through our store.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Edges & Dreams has had to prove itself over the years. Starting in a small corner of the hockey pro shop upstairs in the Edge Ice Arena, we added a few figures skating specific items and grew from there. We now have our own dedicated spot in a small office space in lower level of the ice arena. Recently renovating, we have continued to maximize and grow the potential for the space that we use. In our “tiny, but mighty” boutique space, we have managed to provide a comfortable experience for our customers featuring cozy chairs, complimentary espresso and a TV for watching live worldwide competitions. In addition, gaining the trust of the figure skating community has not always been the easiest. Being the new kids on the block, we had to prove our willingness to learn, our competency and “know how” to handle the servicing of figure skates for beginners to international competitors.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Edges & Dreams – what should we know?
Edges & Dreams is a figure skater one stop shop for everything they need. In addition to selling figure skates, we specialize in figure skate sharpenings, blade mountings, stretching and molding. We also sell tights and apparel, luggage, arch supports, jewelry and more. Chelsea also rhinestones dresses for competitions and manages the website. We utilize technology and have an easy online scheduler to clients to request appointments.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We were very blessed to have an exceptional mentor in our lives for the first five years of our business endeavor. Mike Tamres had been in the sport for half of a century and taught us the ins and outs of servicing and sharpening skates. He was also a coaching mentor to us on the coaching side of the sport. Without Mike’s priceless expertise, it would’ve been a much more difficult journey. We have always felt supported by Mike, but also are very thankful to the Edge Ice Arena management, staff, and Foothills Park and Rec district for allowing us the freedom to rent their space and grow our business.
