Meet Dr. Christine Maren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Christine Maren.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Maren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Colorado. My undergraduate education started at the Leeds School of Business at CU Boulder. During that time, I struggled with my own health issues and found my passion in health and wellness. I earned a business degree at CU but also studied pre-med.

After college, I pursued an osteopathic medical education in search of a more holistic approach and received my medical degree (D.O.) from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University.

I became board-certified in Family Medicine and spent a lot of my time studying holistic nutrition and integrative medicine.

My passion for health and wellness was only amplified after I encountered more health struggles – with thyroid issues and reproductive health, specifically. That is when I was introduced to functional medicine, and I knew immediately that it would become the focus of my career.

In 2015, I started my training to become a Certified Practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFMCP). I later joined the practice of Amy Myers MD at Austin UltraHealth. Dr. Myers’ books, The Autoimmune Solution and The Thyroid Connection, drew complex patients from around the globe.

In 2017, I opened my own independent practice in Austin, Texas and later relocated to Detroit, Michigan for my husband’s fellowship training. A year later, I finally returned home to Colorado to be closer to family. With medical licenses now in Colorado, Michigan and Texas, my practice evolved into a virtual platform and followed me around the country.

Now a mother of three, I’ve devoted my professional life to helping others reclaim their health and get their life back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not going to lie… It’s been a tough road! Being a physician is a blessing, but it takes a lot of sacrifices. I spent a decade or more in the library…

Meanwhile, I had a lot of health challenges – recurrent miscarriages, mold exposure, etc. – and eventually three healthy babies.

And all of this was amplified by my husband’s military commitments, a deployment to Afghanistan, and multiple moves around the country.

We lived away from family for a long time, and I was really overjoyed to return home to Colorado, where my parents and three siblings live.

All of these moves have afforded me a lot of great experiences, good friends, and three medical licenses — but I’m excited to be home for good!

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I am the owner and founder of virtual functional medicine practice based in Colorado.

I am the doctor who will think outside of the box, but I still have the training and background of a board-certified physician. I can tell my patients exactly what supplements to take (or not take), and also prescribe medicine when indicated. I help people figure out exactly what to do day-to-day to up-level their routines and environment and help them to be healthier, happier and more productive.

I work with a wide variety of patients, many of whom struggle with hypothyroidism, chronic digestive issues, and autoimmune issues like Hashimoto’s. I am known for my work in the area of thyroid and reproductive health.

I am also the co-founder of Hey Mami (heymami.com), which focuses on health and wellness during the stages of motherhood, from preconception/fertility through the postpartum years.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really think it’s luck. My life has unfolded in a way that only God could have orchestrated.
