Meet Cody Jeffries of WebTactics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Jeffries.

Hi Cody, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into Web Design and Development was not at all planned. When I tell people how it happened, I put it simply. A wandering thought turned into a hobby, the hobby turned into a passion, and finally, the passion turned into a business.

In more detail, my journey into the web design world started in 2011 when I got stuck in a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled upon a video about websites. From there, my wandering thoughts began. How do I make a website anyways? So I searched and found a how-to on creating a free website, complete with a free domain. It was a simple HTML site with a picture of me, a brief bio, and a link to my Facebook profile. That night struck the, I’m intrigued, match that has been lit ever since.

Since then, I’ve done courses through Lynda.com through which I found out about the WordPress platform. After which, I was able to build a few passion projects on that platform and really began dialing in my knowledge of websites. It wasn’t until I was building one for my local church that I discovered the strategies that can help churches and companies alike to achieve a high converting website that not only looks amazing but is also a very important tool in their marketing strategies.

After all that, I finally stepped out and started my current company, WebTactics LLC, where I work with small to medium-sized businesses and non-profits. With the support of family and friends, I have been able to find and build a business I am very passionate about and that fills my cup every time a project is completed.

Now, I’m adding new services to allow for a wide range of strategies for my clients to employ and work towards those goals they are aiming to achieve. This stuff is exciting and I’m thrilled to be able to share it with everyone who reads this!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road. I’m not a salesman by nature, which is a great thing in my opinion. However, it has proven to be the biggest hurdle to get over. Once I did that and business began to pour in, I then hit a wall with managing my projects and finances. Both of which are a constant learning and tweaking as I go scenario. Outside of that, I’ve been completely self-funded, which means I’ve had to work multiple jobs at once to make this dream of mine a reality.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
WebTactics was built on the principle that websites shouldn’t just look pretty, like a fancy digital business card or something. Rather, I believe that when a website is designed well with the appropriate strategy or tactic integrated with it, a website can and will be your most valuable marketing tool and give you a great ROI. But a website is just one small piece to a bigger puzzle. There are some other tools a business can utilize even if they do not have a website, like Google Business Profile, Review Management, and so much more. When a business has the right strategy aligned with its vision, I feel that the possibilities are endless.

My current service offerings are; Reputation Management, Web Design, and monthly Hosting & Care Plans. Alongside these paid offerings, I also have a free resource on how to get more visibility on Google without Ads. This is the best starting point for any business looking to grow its online presence and get more business.

A “good to know” piece of what I do and what I’m known for, customer care/service is at the heart of what I do. I work to listen and learn about your business, its goals, and hopes for the future. Then and only then do I work through a plan to apply the things I learn to a strategy that I feel would benefit your business. My client projects are not about me. They are about the business growing and achieving what they’ve set out to achieve.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Unfu*k Yourself by Gary John Bishop has been a great book to help me reset my mindset on life in general. For getting into the web design business, I joined a membership course called Break Into Web which has been great in getting me to the point of starting my business. Alongside that, I listen to multiple podcasts on various things. One that helps me with my business is called Web Design Business with Josh Hall.

There are a lot of books, podcasts, and other resources I’ve used to assist me with daily life and business. However, these have been the most impactful for me so far.
