Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Dilley.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been an art, computer graphics and photography teacher for the past 16 years, mostly at the high school level. Education has changed a lot since I started teaching, so in 2014 I thought it might be time to plan my next career phase. Since I was so well versed in photography, I started second shooting weddings and taking on some family photography. My business has grown over the years, I now shoot 15-20 weddings a year, 30 plus family sessions and I have resigned from teaching.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me it was a couple of years of working a full-time day job while running my business at night, then a couple of years of working a day job part-time before I was finally able to take the leap of full-time photographer. I definitely found myself burning the candle at both ends.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the EJ Dilley Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Majestic, enduring photography for adventurous soulmates. My work shows off the beautiful landscapes our wonderful state has to offer. My images are colorful and capture emotional connections between the people in the portraits. People that I work with love to be outdoors and want candid photography of their families and of their love. I am an LGBTQ business owner, so I proudly work with a lot of couples that are LGBTQ.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There is no such thing as luck, especially for photographers. Hard work and lots of rejection is the path of an artist.
