Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Warfield, Dani Wright and Sadie McGarry.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Many years ago, we each realized our strong connection to the mystical side of life and through our journey of learning witchcraft, we discovered our passion for herbalism. We began learning how to create our own ritual products then quickly decided that others could benefit from them as well. We started selling handmade candles, ritual mists, teas, and other herbal items online and at craft fairs and festivals. After a couple of years, we had an amazing opportunity to open a storefront and we added on more and more products that can be used for a variety of different spiritual practices with a focus on witchcraft. We now sell our handmade herbal products, bulk herbs, and a handful of other Colorado-local makers’ products. We host workshops, classes, tarot readings, webinars, and events which is so fun because we get to collaborate with the community and connect in really deep ways.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges along the way, including operating as a completely self-funded business. We each dedicated ourselves to do whatever it takes to make our passions a reality, which comes with a lot of sacrifices. Some of the struggles of hand-making our products is the human error like spilling soap all over a table when pouring it into the soapbox and making some very questionable tasting tea when experimenting with flavors. The journey hasn’t been easy but it has been extremely rewarding and there’s been a lot of laughing through the mistakes.
Arcana Herbal – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our business focuses on herbal witchcraft items but we also have other tools like pendulums, tarot cards, live plants, and more. We make witchcraft approachable and accessible for anyone and it’s modern. Sometimes people can be intimidated by witchcraft because of stereotypes and we wanted to break down that worry and provide people a new perspective of what it means to practice witchcraft. Our brand is purposefully minimalist in order to give people the room to make it their own.
People know us for our inclusivity, welcoming atmosphere, openness to discussion and educating others, and positivity. We offer a warm and inviting place for people to ask questions, explore new spiritual paths, and to simply connect with others. Sometimes we spend a little too much time talking to people and should really get back to work, haha. We love it, though – come in and hang out with us. We’re the most proud of our progress. Looking back on when we first started to where we are now has been incredibly humbling and it’s helped us grow as individuals. We’ve learned and experienced so much along the way so sharing it with others is the best we could ask for.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment was moving into our newest storefront. We just moved in May 2020 to space twice the size of our original shop and it has felt like a dream come true. We were able to expand our store to not just have products but also a production area and an event space where we host workshops, give tarot readings, and more. Reopening in our new store was very challenging because it was during COVID-19 and unfortunately, we weren’t able to receive financial assistance. We had to get creative to continuing flourishing during the lockdowns and are grateful to be open now.
