Meet Hannah Ulbrich of Copper Door Coffee Roasters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Ulbrich.

Hannah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Six years ago, I was drinking coffee roasted by my neighbor straight from his garage and it was the best coffee I’d ever had. As a long time coffee lover, former barista, and exhausted mother, I was hooked. One day while out for a walk, my neighbor said he was going to sell Copper Door and I just knew in my gut I needed to buy it. Once I learned the in’s and out’s of roasting and wholesale, I decided to open a cafe to better serve the community!

Has it been a smooth road?
Ha! No smooth roads here. I’ve had trouble with access to capital, greedy landlords, staffing, and the general struggle of being a working mom and entrepreneur.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Not only are we Denver’s only woman-owned roasting company, we focus on high-quality specialty coffee. We work directly with farmers and importers around the world and strive to bring in at least 50% of our coffee from woman producers and those that support women. Finding high-grade green coffee and roasting it to bring out the specific attributes of the given characteristics is key.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Denver isn’t ranked very high for being friendly to female entrepreneurs, and there is definitely room for improvement. Luckily, I’ve never given up and have found our local community to be very supportive and kind.
