Meet Hannah Weidmann of Everyday Heirloom Co. in Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Weidmann.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Hannah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are husband + wife artists growing two beautiful babies and building two creative businesses from our foothills studio in Denver, CO. You may more readily recognize us from our influential platform at JakeWeidmann.com where we share Beauty and Truth in the world of fine art.

Jake is a professional artist and certified as one of eleven Master Penman in the world.
He holds the title as the youngest Master Penman alive today by three decades and is the youngest to ever attain the title. His journey into calligraphy has been the “special sauce” for everything he now creates, incorporating traditional calligraphic flourishing into the full breadth of his work.
Jake is self-taught in each of his disciplines: calligraphy, painting, drawing, woodworking, and, of course, engraving.

Hannah is a writer by nature and loves everything involved in the creation of an art piece.
More than the finished work, she has become obsessed with the process of “becoming.”
Being the intimate on-looker and recipient of Jake’s most meaning-filled art, Hannah has the unique responsibility to capture each story as they lean evermore into their Calling to create.

Our mission and vision through Everyday Heirloom Co. is to infuse beauty into our daily lives; creating a legacy in the midst of the ordinary.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Friends suddenly started calling us jewelers after we started Everyday Heirloom Co. and that was laughable to us as we don’t see ourselves that way.

While Hannah designs the jewelry and Jake hand engraves each one, we see ourselves as general artists as much of what drove us to start Everyday Heirloom came from a desire to create beautiful things for people, not necessarily out of a love for designing jewelry.

There’s obviously a learning curve when it comes to starting a “jewelry business” as we had to educate ourselves on what materials we wanted to use; what would be both economical for our customers and at the same time lasting.

We want to create beauty that lasts, so quality materials continue to be our primary promise to our customers. And since we hand engrave each piece that leaves our studio, we had to know what materials could stand this timeless technique (anything plated was out of the question as it would flake and tarnish quickly).

While we prefer solid gold materials, especially with the high-quality engraving service we provide, we also wanted to create something that could serve a multitude of people, which is why we offer 14k gold-filled items as well.

Nothing about owning your own business is easy, especially as we raise two babies in the midst of it, but with this brand being an off-shoot of our primary business in the fine art world, much of our path was paved with the kind of reputable work we are proud to stand by.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Everyday Heirloom Co. – what should we know?
Our hand-engraved jewelry is one-of-a-kind and uniquely you as we customize each order. You have the opportunity to capture the beautiful calligraphic romance of Jake’s masterful penmanship in a necklace for you and someone you love. Consider our work a wearable love letter inscribed with your memories, forever etched into your heart.

We’re taking old-world style hand-engraving and combining it with calligraphic mastery you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Literally. Just a little difference in what you’ll find between mass-produced items and our personalized heirlooms.

Engraving is a literal etching into the metal and the script we employ in all of our signature styles can only be achieved with hand engraving. We toyed with a few other ideas of creating “easier ways” to produce the same level of artistry, but we haven’t come up with anything that compares to the beauty of what we’re doing now. Hand engraving takes copious amounts of skill and time; nothing about what we do is easy or quick but the results are lasting. As we like to say, “slow progress is lasting progress.”

Our mission with Everyday Heirloom Co. is to infuse beauty into our daily lives; creating a legacy in the midst of the ordinary. While we are capturing your stories in tangible heirlooms, our aim is to encourage you to craft your story with intention –live a powerful, lasting legacy right in the middle everyday life.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The characteristic that is most important to our success, not only as a business but as human beings, is to love people.

Our work is centered around connecting with people; stepping into their stories, if only for a moment, to grieve with them, celebrate with them and most of all, care for them.

You may see Everyday Heirloom Co. as just a custom jewelry business but to us, we create to connect. If our work was only to create beautiful things, our work would still be meaningful, as the world needs these things and be reminded that beauty exists, even -and especially- in the everyday. But our work is about pairing beauty with truth and telling stories -yours and our own- because these are the memories that make us.

We are in the business of crafting heirlooms not only for beauty’s sake but for the sake of sharing who we are.
