Meet Heather Prall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Prall.

Heather, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been a head in the clouds kind of girl, and have continually been drawn to anything that allows me to be creative. I started painting when I was in the 6th grade after being inspired by an art class. As I grew older, life happened and I found less time for it.

In recent years, I reconnected with painting as a coping mechanism, a distraction. For me, starting to paint again, was a way to begin stitching some of the wounds that I couldn’t find a way to heal. The art of creating became the most natural way for me to communicate.

Before I would make this reconnection with my art, I followed a direction where I thought I would attain success and money. Out of college, I landed in the business world. I obtained a Master’s Degree in Business, several certifications, and almost 14 years of experience working in Human Resources. I always felt like I was chasing after something else, not sure exactly what though. My career and experience at that time left me feeling incredibly unfulfilled.

In December of 2013 I left my job to raise our newborn daughter. My husband was feeling unhappy in his career. We decided to sell our house to explore and travel by RV for nine months, with our daughter and two cats. One of our stops was in Santa Fe, NM. We spent quite a bit of time browsing the galleries in this art-centric town. I was incredibly inspired by the beautiful work and creativity.

After returning back to Denver from our adventure, I continued an ongoing fertility battle with In-Vitro Fertilization. Our daughter had been born through our first round of IVF a few years prior. We encountered a second miscarriage and were told that we were no longer candidates for assisted reproductive technology. I was devastated. Being an adopted child I had always had the desire to have my own children. Painting became very meditative for me and was a way to escape.

As an artist, I began exploring using hard body acrylics and then working with fluid acrylics. Friends and family started asking to purchase pieces of my artwork. That grew into a word of mouth business and I was asked to participate in several local art shows and an online gallery. I never set out to do this as a business, but it was all happening organically.

Since I was a child, I have had the gift of psychic abilities. At times I can visualize an art piece before it’s in progress. My intuition takes over to create this beautiful energetic flow of paint. This makes each piece truly unique.

I’ve found that everyone can find a way to connect to an art piece, based upon their own personal experiences. Where one person may look at a painting and feel the longing to be understood, someone else can see a new beginning. This is one of my favorite parts of this experience.

The story of how I made it to this point is one of evolution. It’s slow and grueling like the life of a caterpillar. This is truly my butterfly moment and this is who I am. In this space, there are no limits and I have found a place where I belong.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to get here has been long and difficult. The struggles in life have led me to this moment. The evolution of the art from where it started, to the business it is now, has been a natural progression.

My goal is to bring joy and inspiration to others through my creative passion. I don’t feel the pressure now that has existed in the past with other career endeavors. My business stems from that passion, not the latter. And in my opinion, that is what has created success in this endeavor.

Please tell us about art.
My inspiration for my work comes from extensive travel and a deep appreciation for creativity expressed in all forms. My art conveys emotion through movement and color. Since each piece of art is abstract and unique, every observer will see something different and connect in their own way.

I work with heavy body acrylics and fluid acrylics on panel and canvas. The energy, flow and outcome of my acrylics are what set themselves apart. I do not follow someone else’s formula or learned technique. The psychic intelligence creates the art and as a result is authentic to thyself.

These paintings cannot be duplicated. The way the colors come together and the movement are one of a kind. The depth and dimension and are a true reflection of the soul.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My years as a teen between 12-15, were the best part of growing up. I went to a very diverse school where there was room for being your authentic self. Music, art and the beginning of self-expression made these very exciting times.
