Meet Jane Sagalovich of Scale Your Genius in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Sagalovich.

Jane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It was a long road to get here! I spent 15 years climbing the corporate ladder then another 4 years building a consulting business with a partner. I always knew that I wanted to work in ‘business’. Moving to the United States from Ukraine at age ten, I was magnetized by capitalism, private enterprise, and the power of businesses and wealth to create really amazing things. Something I didn’t see while living in a Communist regime. It’s funny, while other kids were serving ice cream or working retail as their first job at 16 years old – I was working at Oppenheimer Funds – a financial firm whose regional office was close to my parents’ home. And it continued from there. I got a business degree and jobs at the largest and most prestigious American corporations. I climbed the corporate ladder because that’s what I thought I was supposed’ to do and because it gave me sexy sounding titles, luxury corporate trips, and bragging rights. Yet something was missing, and for years, I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t know why I wasn’t feeling inspired, powerful, and driven. Why I dreaded every Monday and wasn’t eager to jump out of bed every day. That hopeful little girl’s dream of making a difference through the business was not coming to fruition.

One day, I realized that I was running my career decisions from my head (and ego) rather than my heart and soul. So, I decided to let my soul do the driving and that’s how this venture was born. I now get to experience the JOY of making a difference in my clients’ lives and the excitement for each and every day. I get to run a business that’s created on a combination of years of experience and the brilliance of my heart and soul. I get to spend my days using a combination of logic, expertise, and intuition to guide clients towards creating the business of their dreams where they can scale their impact, maximize their wealth, and live a life of freedom and contribution. It was a long road to get here and one that was totally worth it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not!

Two struggles stand out for me along the way. The biggest struggle for me has been pacifying my perfectionist inner-critic. You know that voice that tells you you’re never good enough? That voice got LOUD when I started this business. Every limiting belief, every impostor syndrome trigger, every not-enoughness got pushed up to the surface. I’ve done so much work around this and come so far but I believe that this is work that never ends. It’s a daily practice of acceptance and compassion.

The second struggle is staying committed when there’s no one there to hold you accountable. I find it easy to be accountable to others – bosses, employees, clients, family. But to myself? That was a new one for me. I had to get super-duper clear on my vision for my business and committed to my why to keep me going on the days when it doesn’t feel like it matters.

Scale Your Genius – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I help experts create their dream businesses!

Most experts have so much wisdom to share with the world and they go into coaching or consulting, typically working with clients one-on-one. While that does create an impact for those clients, trading time for money is an inefficient way to work. So many of them get burned out or overwhelmed because the amount of money they can make in this business model is limited by the number of hours they want to spend on client work. And while powerful – that kind of work can also be very demanding and emotionally draining.

So, I help them create a better way!

I help them leverage technology to stop saying the same thing over and over to every client, to create amazing digital resources to guide their clients towards amazing results, minimizing (but not necessarily removing) the amount of one-on-one time needed per client. So, what I do is help experts create awesome online programs so that they can create a bigger impact with their knowledge, make more money, and create freedom in their lives. I am known for my focus on quality and results and on helping clients create fully custom programs that are the perfect fit for them and their clients. I also combine strategy and mindset work – because one can’t be effective without the other. You can have the best strategy in the world, but if you’re self-sabotaging the execution, it won’t work. The opposite is true too – a great outlook isn’t enough without proper strategy and execution guidance. So, I make sure to include both in all of my client work.

I’m proud of serving as a catalyst to change the industry. The online course industry has suffered from a pretty bad reputation because of the proliferation of low-quality online courses that are painful to consume and don’t get promised results. My work and my clients’ results are proving that online course results can be powerful and that creating a high-quality and results-driven online program is totally possible. And that work creates a ripple effect. Because my clients have clients – the work we do together ripples out into the world, magnifying its effect.

What sets me apart is that I’m really picky about whom I’ll work with. My process isn’t for everyone. I need to feel aligned that what I’m helping them scale is truly needed by the market place and will make a difference for their clients. I also need to feel comfortable that the expert has the intention to create an online program that focuses on client results just as much making more money or creating freedom in their business model. So, people who just “want to make money online” are probably not a good fit for my work.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as a combination of the following: My ability to live into my core values of freedom, contribution, and integrity. My ability to take all the gifts and abundance I’ve co-created along the way and channel it into something bigger. How many lives I can change – directly for my clients, and indirectly through the ripple effect created by my work. How much wealth I create. Partly for myself – money is a great catalyst for freedom, but also to be able to give it away to charitable causes of my choice and to make sure that number goes up every year.
