Meet Jason Shankle of Inner Self and Wisdom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Shankle.

Jason, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from the Park Hill area of Denver. Growing up I viewed basketball as my way “out”. I never thought I would be in my divine walk that I am in now as the CEO/Founder of Inner Self and Wisdom, LLC Private Therapy Practice as a Mental Health Professional Therapist. From growing up in the wild 90’s in Park Hill to becoming a therapist to help others heal inside and outside my community gives me purpose.

Some of my meaningful work is doing individual and group therapy sessions with committed black youth through DYC (Denver Youth Corrections) and Savio. Being able to relate to clients and connect to influence them is a difficult task but there are quite a few success stories I have been apart of. Additionally, I was a Psychology professor at the Community College of Denver for five years where I built lasting relationships as well as inspired many students to thrive in their purpose. Last year I self-published a book named Therapeutic: Soul Searching Poetry which was inspired by my life in a creative writing style that was designed to help people heal through expression.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The best way for me to describe the road I’ve taken is a beautiful struggle. I’ve had to move a lot when I was younger and learned at a very early age I had to raise myself to be a man. My struggle growing up made me mature faster than my peers because it was about survival and making it to the next day. I am a first-generation student along with being the first to earn a Bachelors and Master’s degree on my immediate mother’s side of the family. Another challenge was being a single parent father of two children while being enrolled at the University of Denver earning my doctorate in Higher Education which I am on track to graduate in December 2020.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Inner Self and Wisdom – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Inner Self and Wisdom, LLC is a private therapy practice that provides counseling/psychotherapy as well as educational resources that foster personal, professional, and relationship growth and development through intervention, motivation, consciousness of self, emotional and social wellness.

I specialize in Bipolar Disorder, Narcissistic Relationships, Anger, Anxiety and Depression. I am known for providing therapy to the community along with a Depression and Family Inherited Trauma Workshop.

I am most proud of the award I received The Association of Black Psychologists: Community Service Award in 2018.

What sets me apart from others is my passion and divine walk to help others heal from pain as I did.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to grow my private practice and expand my workshop to further help the community. I also want release more books centered around therapy. I also want to continue to do more podcasts in the future to make more creditable content. I am looking forward to expanding my therapeutic books into other states as well as a workshop to help people heal. #HealingOverFixing is my social media footprint slogan.
