Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeri Morgan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband Bill and I started Code Blue Computing in January of 2010. At our core, we are Small Business Owners ourselves. We are passionate about helping Business Owners protect themselves from Cyber Attacks and increasing their productivity while lowers their costs through technology.
My husband had worked in Fortune 500 I.T. for 15 years and I had worked in Corporate Call Center and Operations Management for over 20. Having an I.T. Company was Bill’s dream but I knew my background in Customer Service could help shape a uniquely different kind of company than existed in the market.
We knew first hand that the knowledge base and the Customer Service in most outsourced I.T. Companies was, to be honest downright awful. We started Code Blue Computing in order to support small businesses with the same level of service they would receive if they worked for a Fortune 500 Company but with a White Glove Concierge Technology Service.
We have the best clients, who are creating amazing things out in the world. We are lucky in that we get to be a small piece of what they do and their success.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road definitely has not been smooth. We both had what were classically defined as good, corporate jobs when we started the company. When we started, we worked in the business part-time until we were able to grow our client base. We had twins the 2nd year we were in business, so that definitely added a layer of complexity as well.
The biggest struggles have been related to marketing the business. I didn’t really have a background at all in marketing, and figuring that out was at times both expensive and time-consuming. I really enjoy that piece now and am so glad I went through it.
We worked the business for almost four years before we were able to leave our full-time jobs. In retrospect, that was the best thing we could have done. We made a lot of mistakes in the early years, heck we still do. But having that income to cushion us, saved us. Had we not had that we definitely would have been a statistic and closed in the first year or two.
Please tell us about Code Blue Computing.
Code Blue Computing is an I.T. Consulting Firm located in Broomfield, Colorado but we service clients all over Colorado.
Our specialty is Cyber Security. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of I.T Companies that are helping their customers as much as they should be or even know what to do on the security front. The Cyber Threats are growing every single day. It is not a question of when your business will be attacked it is WHEN it will be attacked and IF your business will survive. We are on the front lines with our clients creating the best defense we can.
60% of businesses will close within six months of a Cyber Attack. Keeping our clients protected and the ability to get them back up and running quickly is the most important thing that we do. The climate has completely changed since we started our business and it would be negligent of us to not have a security first focus for our clients.
In addition to the Security aspect of what we do we function as the I.T. Department for our clients. We handle the Help Desk and Desktop Support, Networking, Management of File and Exchange Servers, Office 365, Cabling, and VoIP Telephone Systems. We really work hand in hand with our clients managing their technology so they can manage their business.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
As a family-owned company, we were home-based for the first four years. I would have separated that much earlier. When you are a husband and wife team working out of your home, there is no separation between family time and work time. So, by default, we were always working.
Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing. My husband and I have created something that we absolutely love from scratch. How amazing it that?
