Meet Jerry Siote of Lone Tree Brewing Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Siote.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started Lone Tree Brewing Co in 2011 in the town of Lone Tree. At the time, there was really no craft beer anywhere in the area, and the people of the community seemed extremely receptive to having a smaller, high-quality craft brewery near by. The original goal was to showcase styles from all over the world while providing a community-first mentality that created a home-like atmosphere. To this day, we feel really good about sticking to that original plan and have since produced award-winning beers that are consistent and available year-round.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Growing a small business successfully (and profitably) is always painful and requires a lot of endurance. The cost of growth comes on multiple fronts, whether it’s financial, time away from family and friends or second-guessing any number of business choices. When the time to upgrade our brewhouse in May of 2015 and purchase a fully-automated canning line, the feeling of “no-turning-back” started to sink in. We felt confident that our products, philosophy and people running the company justified the expansion, and so far we’ve been right. It’s been said to death, but any company out there is only as good as the people who created it and carry it on. Ours is no different.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lone Tree Brewing Company – what should we know?
We make great craft beer with a focus on consistency, quality and adaptive styles. We specialize in highly drinkable beers to all beer-drinkers. Our Mexican Lager is our most popular brand and carries a Gold medal and a Silver medal from the Great American Beer Festival. As a company, we’ve always worried that we never had “a thing” that drastically separated us from the rest of the industry, But as we grew and listened to what our customers wanted, we realized that our flexibility and creativity throughout all styles/genres was our biggest strength. Flexibly and a willingness to adapt is key to survival in any fast-moving industry, and we pride ourselves on our experience.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife Katie deserves most of the credit (as do many of the spouses of our owners and employees), for letting me take a huge leap away from a more stable career path. In the end, she’s supportive and patient and a great sounding board. Too many times I’ve heard, “You’re a brewer, that must be the easiest and most fun job ever”. However, some days, it doesn’t seem so, so having someone at home to be there on tough days is vital.
