

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Fialkovich.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When my husband, Al, and I sold our first company we were introduced to the industry of buying and selling businesses. However, we realized that there were very few services for small business owners (companies under $10 million annually in revenue) and through the process of selling our own we felt that personally. We decided we wanted to bring our personal experience and our entrepreneurial background to really provide top notch services to that market. After opening our first office for Transworld in 2013, we grew by buying other franchise locations and rolling them up into a larger office which today totals 18 total offices across the state of Colorado. We continue to serve small and medium sized business owners in the sale or purchase of a business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey of building a business is never smooth. Each year we are faced with different challenges as our business hits a different growth stage. In the beginning it was all about cash flow, as we are a transactional business and that brings its own challenges. Then we were faced with recruiting issues, in a tight market like Denver it’s hard to find talent especially in the commission-only sales world during a market like this. Now, we are working through how to manage a large office without losing the intimacy and family feel of a small business. Each stage has brought new issues but also a huge opportunity for learning and personal growth.

Transworld Business Advisors helps small and mid size business owners buy or sell a business. Each of our brokers specializes in 2-3 industries so we sell all kinds of businesses, everything from restaurants to contractors to professional business services. What were you like growing up?
My dad always told me I was independent, he even had a theme song for me (I Won’t Back Down, Tom Petty). But he was right, I always believed that no matter what I wanted I could work hard and find the path to get there. I grew up as an equestrian in Southern New Jersey and got myself a job mucking stalls at 12 to help pay for my competitions.
