Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Rock.
Jordan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my journey way back in high school taking a couple of classes. I didn’t take it very serious at that point and just took it as a hobby. It wasn’t till I started a family of my own that I saw just how precious those moments were and how capturing them for myself and others was something my heart was content chasing as a dream and career path!
For me, every picture I take tells a story, a moment in time when life seemed so simple and pure! I want to be able to help others always have those moments to remember! I am now 27 with three kids and a very busy mama!
I started with a small point and shoot cameras. I went from a Lumix to a Nikon Cool pix and I’m sure as you could guess, my results were not the best! When I started my business I started with a Canon Rebel T6 but have recently had the pleasure of upgrading to a Canon Mark 7D ii.
I pour my heart and soul into what I do! I strive for perfection with every shot I do and I am not happy till I know that my clients are happy with the final products that I am delivering!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has by far been one of the hardest struggles to get to where I am and I feel like every day is another struggle to reach the top! The market for photographers is VERY saturated so I constantly have to try to get very creative with my set ups, sessions and special details to make sure I am setting myself apart from the rest!
Every profession has struggles and obstacles but that is what determines a strong business is if you can get over the hurdles that are constantly thrown in your direction! I have a bachelor’s degree in small business management and entrepreneurship which I feel like gave me a great foundation to start on and structure my business by! Gaining clientele is always a struggle because like I said this is not only a very saturated market but everyone has different styles and wants to make sure the photographer’s style is the same as the client’s desires!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is Rocks Rebel Photography and I do any type of photography you can think of however I find myself drawn to families, couples and weddings as my specialty! I love watching the connections between these groups and the immerse bonds that always shine through during sessions! I feel that I am a very easy going and down to earth photographer so it is very easy for me to come into big crowd such as a wedding and feel as though I have known the groups forever!
I am known for being patient, outgoing and most importantly FUN! I love to make my clients laugh, whether it is joking or them laughing as I fumble not to fall, both ways are a success and usually end in great captures of laughs and great interactions! I try not to be the cliché of what we think of for a photographer. I love naturally posed, meaning the way that is most comfortable for my clients with slight tweaks were necessary from me! I also LOVE lifestyle! What better than to capture true bonding moments!
I pride myself on being a friend and photographer. What does that mean? That means that when hiring me you are not only hiring me for the one day of you’re wedding or session, you are hiring me as a friend! Someone you can ask questions to without feeling silly, helping with dressing, outfit choices, props and making Pinterest dreams come to life! I make sure to stay in constant communication so we are always on the same page and I do whatever I need to, to make sure the session or wedding will go as smoothly as possible!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Denver, as well as Colorado Springs, are such big cities that they are great for starting! What better than a place with more potential for clients than we all know what to do with! For someone starting, I suggest just being fully prepared for a fight for your place to the top.
There are some AMAZING photographers here in CO, the scenery certainly makes a lot of people travel here but also gives plenty of places to get out and practice! So if you are starting to take advantage of what your beautiful backyard has to offer! The possibilities could be endless but only if you are ready to push to the top for your spot!
