Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin and Hannah Bossier.
Justin and Hannah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My wife and I got married in the fall of 2016 and packed up and moved here to Denver 2 months later in January of 2017. I have been tattooing now for seven years and my wife has been a cosmetologist going on four years now, From the beginning of my career, I had always worked for “Street shops” which are your stereotypical tattoo shop. Fast-paced, loud, non-personal, and just an in an out kind of environment, I’ve always believed in “Quality over quantity” when it comes to the tattoo industry. I wanted to create a more personal and relaxing environment for my clients.
In 2018 my wife wanted to branch out farther into the beauty industry and became interested in learning how to microblade. She began her training in May of 2018 and completed her course in December of 2018. During this time, my wife and I started collaborating on the idea of “The Beard N Lady”.
“The Beard N Lady” opened its doors January of 2019.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With this being our first business, we definitely learned a lot about being business owners/partners. I’d say the hardest part of the entire process would be our search for a place to lease. I’m not saying this because there wasn’t any locations with availability. There were plenty. It was extremely hard to find a landlord willing to allow us to lease their space for a private tattoo and microblading studio. The label “Tattoo shop” carries and certain stigma on its back. One landlord told us the day we were supposed to sign a lease that he would be backing away from the offer because he couldn’t get past the idea that tattoo shops are “a haven for drugs.” In that moment not only was it heartbreaking, it was also frustrating due to the fact that our entire goal and vision of creating this business was to break that stereotype and to bring a nice, professional studio into the community.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
“The Beard N Lady” is a Private Tattoo and Microblading Studio. I myself do the tattoos and my wife microblades eyebrows. We definitely take pride in our shop being a more intimate and relaxing experience when it comes to creating the ideal environment in which we service our clients in. Cleanliness is top priority. We offer one on one services for each of our customers. Being a mostly appointment only studio our clients won’t have the feeling of being rushed. We offer free beverages (sodas and water) in the shop for all of our customers to enjoy. We also let each customer pick a movie or music of their choice to enjoy while being serviced during their appointment. We like to create a comfortable environment for our clients.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an only child and was meek for the most part until entering Junior High. I was top 20 in my graduating class. Back then, I played football and was the only sophomore on the Varsity team and also did track and field. I was voted prom king my Senior year. I always had an interest in art but, I didn’t really pursue it until my second year of college.
My wife growing up was extremely shy. Unlike me, she grew up with a “Brady Bunch” of siblings. She always enjoyed going to the lake with her family and fishing. She began pursuing a career in nursing her senior year of high school and further continued it a year after graduating high school. She later wanted to pursue the beauty industry.
